"privilege" just isn't a very good theory of right anyway.
were the geschwister scholl privileged for being uni students able to distribute pamphlets critical of the nazis? yes!
does that diminish their courage in any way? no, that's stupid
also the use of "privilege" in this way is deranged. is it a privilege to be able to eat ethically-sourced food? is it a privilege to be able to vote? yes and yes. why shame people for using their means to make good decisions instead of going after the systems that make it hard to do so?
okay... if this is true, then why does ai skepticism correlate positively with disempowerment? why do trans, women, and poc use ai less than cis white men?
my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

I think one of the more important skills you can have in 2026 is knowing when someone is performatively using progressive coded language to argue for something that is fundementally not progressive because they can claim a perceived moral high ground.

I can absolutely see it. I've seen trans women and men on bluesky get *INTENTIONALLY* deadnamed for... being pro AI. By rightwing chuds? NO. BY OTHER TRANS FOLKS
token permutation software that was trained on exclusively "ethically sourced" data, that runs entirely locally and thus without outsized environmental impacts, would be in no meaningful way better than the products currently available. the problem is that the machine is lying.
The only remaining points to clear would be to address impact to environment and water usage on data centres, which I think could be mitigated by being an open weight model that can be run on one’s own hardware. This should all be within realm of govts to do (or maybe a unified group of nations…)
this sort of entryism honestly concerns me. why are these The Anti-AI Arguments when they are all so superficial and detached from the fundamental problem with deifying a random text generator?
A horse, is by nature, proud noble and free. And yet: a horse is constantly using this power to gash her side on a nail, or get her head stuck in a gate, or gore herself on a fence-post, or kick her leg into a wall and bleed absolutely everywhere.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men.
We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”
chiang's essay is perfect in so many ways, but this specific note about crime seems to come up constantly somehow. maybe it has do with the fact that accidental hacking is still illegal!
The best part of Suleyman's essay calls out Anthropic's circular logic, as others have done (Ted Chiang's most recent piece comes to mind). Train a model with 'what if AI will develop interests, claim rights, or even do crimes?' and you will get a model that capably plays the part. Basically this:
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC - @electdemocrats.bsky.social) is running anti-trans ads now, so I don't know how you can say the party itself isn't embracing transphobia.
There are still some good Dems out there, but transphobia is apparently a party value.
obviously, a democratic president will be in office in 2028.
the democratic party is entirely committed to ensuring that nothing will change because of it
just constantly screaming all the things they think the fascists want them to say, as loud as they can
dude, they're just not into you. they're *never* going to fuck you. move on. it's fucking embarrassing.
"She’ll be a watchdog for our tax dollars and stand up to both parties to lower costs, secure our border, and protect girls’ sports."
the DCCC's brains are so god damned cooked that hurting trans kids is a TOP 3 priority for them
healthcare, wealth inequality, schools, Iran, climate... nah?

obama speaks so damn clearly, he is so good at making it sound like he's just telling it like it is. it's such an incredible thing for trump that he never had to debate him
“How much time do you think this defense secretary spends looking in the mirror in the morning? These are not serious people” — Obama’s audience in Ohio is hanging on every word as he skewers Trump and Hegseth
But Then She Came Back is in one way about cutting pieces of yourself away to take care of an abuser, but from the monster's POV it's about losing your memories, your sense of self, cognition, & being a burden to those around you - something I'm terrified of given a family history of Alzheimer's.
The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history.
Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar.

The New York Times wrote articles that were like "the impossible-to-characterize elusive politics of Elon Musk / he's lost interest in politics" right before he became *literally the largest GOP donor in history* the next election cycle. Twice. Two times!
In 1994, 86% of unmarried Japanese men said they used ore, the blunt, masculine way to say "I," with family and friends. By 2026, that had fallen to 42.5%.
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot
A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

I know so many people who hate themselves and are waiting to love themselves but the trick really is to choose it even though you don't feel worthy of it & to keep doing it despite the reflexive instincts & habits you've accumulated.
