I've been surprised how strongly Talarico has shifted to running against Elon's influence and I'm glad to see it.

Talarico: "If you've seen an attack ad on your TV, that was Elon. If you've gotten lies in your mailbox, that was Elon. If you've received a text message saying scary things about me with scary black and white photos. That was Elon too."

Changing plans. Not a "Going to a different grocery store" kind of plan, but the plan I've routed in my head for what I WILL be doing for the next thirty, sixty, ninety minutes or more. Cut into that unexpectedly and I'm unprepared? Shakes, irritability, brain fog, loss of direction, etc.

I saw a post referring to an AI as a "silicon RA," and not only is that a wonderful way to wind up producing shit academic work, it's a wonderful way to telegraph your views about students, and does shit to develop future scholars.

To me, these people are ceasing to be academics and scholars.

Today is the anniversary of being told by an FBI agent that I was about to be federally indicted. I tried to look for pictures from that day but all there is the tableau of full-body stress hives all over my back. 0/10, take better pictures future Kat

"The votes aren't there" is cowardice masked as savviness. There has to be accountability for their crimes. The House has a duty to make the case here and if some GOP senators want to weasel out, make them own that vote. Don't let pundits and "strategists" talk you out of doing your damn job.

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

It's no longer left versus right, liberals versus conservatives or even Democrat versus Republican. It’s now democracy versus oligarchy. Freedom versus dictatorship. Right versus wrong. Know the stakes. The midterms are here.

I appreciate the bar is quite low but this excerpt from an interview with Molyneux about AI is almost too on the nose. Nice anecdote about a colleague he used to respect and enjoy working with, followed by an explanation of how him and everyone like him is now expendable.

i just learnt that a hockey player here in the UK got kicked out of a game because he took a penalty, left the penalty box to the stands while serving it, and came back to the ice with a pair of glasses for the referee, and i maintain that things shouldn’t be illegal if they’re also hilarious

fascinating to see the level of reality disconnect these people have on a fundamental level if the story is "married man who runs a business starts having sex with a young woman intern he hired" how do you even begin to think "well it must be the intern girls fault" full-on detachment from reality
