Everyone should read these threads I did about industry lobbyists and the EPA and understand them. Take the time to see the unambiguous evidence of what's happening now at this moment inside the EPA. Please retweet them. Please read them. Each one of the threads. It's happening in slow motion.

This is a very strong interview with @chrystia-freeland.bsky.social on how America has turned from ally to foe for many, embodied by the relationship with Canada, and the very real danger that presents to the world. 🎁 www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/o...

Our idea of citizenship in the Western Hemisphere is really special and you don't really get that until you try to integrate somewhere else. One more thing about this guy: he loves Michigan as much as I do AND he knows other places. @abdulelsayed.bsky.social

"In the UK I’d meet third generation Pakistani kids and I’d be like "You’re British." They’re like "I’m not British. I’m Pakistani." I was like "Yes, but you’re British. You have a British citizenship." They’re like, "Yes, I’m a citizen of the United Kingdom, but I’m not British. I’m Pakistani."

“The debate over A.I. safety tends to focus on the precise probability that A.I.s will kill us all. I don’t find that helpful. What I think we should focus on is something more straightforward, something nearer at hand: loss of human control over A.I.”

While not quite the political thesis of the piece, this insight hits hard for me: “I find that much time spent on any of these platforms shapes me in ways I don’t want to be shaped. All of these platforms create a feeling of being informed and connected that is fundamentally false.”

That's a pretty good summary of what is frankly a ridiculous story going around, including here on bsky. Peter Thiel is frankly ideologically repugnant, but co-hosting a mini-conference isn't a conspiracy or one of his crimes, and it's fine that e.g. Elizabeth Blackburn attended

Great episode on the power of cooperation and stories, liberalism, the risks and benefits of AI and more. I really like Harari's liberty-equality-fraternity test for political systems.

“I have been exploring the deepening relationship so many people have with their A.I.s. The protean nature of these systems mean they are never just one thing, but among the many things they are is the one McLuhan warned of: an extension of our self in a material that is not our self.” #AIEthics
