I just checked in on some code I let the AI cook on for a while because it was getting a bit long. “Do we REALLY need 3500 lines for this?” “Oh, that explains it, it gave each of the 86 named arguments a separate line, alright!” … “Wait a minute…”

If anyone out there isn’t familiar with cumulative distribution functions, they are absolutely fantastic. You can show your p50, p90, p95 latency on a chart that allows visual estimation of other latencies. You can visualize request volume as a cdf of counts over time, and steep slope is high load

I'm a huge, huge fan of cdfs specifically

It’s easy to feel surrounded by folks who would rather solve millennium problems than quietly deliver business value by understanding user needs and delivering solutions within business constraints. I get it! I’m a developer too, but if you’re building something people like that has impact too.

valgrind@tech-val.bsky.social

the problem is the bosses want to think they're managing rocket scientists too

Jar jar speak is funny, but it’s SO positive. Who’s out there training an abliterated jar jar that adopts the speech patterns but is as mean as it possibly can be? Who’s writing the agent harness that swaps between happy jar jar and darth jar jar?

norvid_studies@norvid-studies.bsky.social

If we want to regulate AI, why not start with a simple law forcing LLMs to use "Meesa" instead of "I"? Easy to build, easy to verify and deflates a hype while still allowing people to use chatbots (so no one can claim we are limiting anything)

What route should you take from the blue pin to the red pin, if you need to cross the road to touch the far side in between? You want the fastest route, but counting time on the road for double that on the pavement - it is more dangerous. you will rediscover the laws for reflection and refraction!

Work on state government a bit? Sounds like I should tag Keith Ellison and ask if I can help support any lawsuits against the federal government.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: What is your message to the people of Minnesota who are still upset with the ICE surge? This is just one more thing on top of that JD VANCE: We love them. So much of what is broken in MN is a lack of cooperation. We would encourage everybody in MN to work on the state government a little bit

And what does it have to do with good bonus allocation? If some shit tier employee submits clearing price-$1 and your best performer submits clearing price +$10k, you probably want to give the money to the top performer if you can.

I read this and thought "Oh, this is something a first-year Econ grad student would think of, thinking they're being clever but ignoring 300 different aspects of actual behavior." The guy behind it? Lt. Col. .. sigh ... Justicz (SUCH lazy writers) ... who spent 3 yrs as an Econ grad student at MIT.

There is NOTHING ‘America First’ about selling out some of our most pristine waters so a Chilean mining company can come in, take our minerals, ship them to China for processing, then sell them off. All while polluting the Boundary Waters in the process.

Abolish ICE. There’s no reforming it. There’s no compromise. There’s only one way to rein in ICE’s terror campaign. Abolish it.

What I love about Golden is that if you don’t know the plot of the movie, it’s this joyous anthem about taking the moment to achieve everything you’ve ever dreamed of. Connected to the plot it’s an incredibly tragic song about intentionally, permanently losing your identity to live as your superego.

“what it sounds like” is improved by its contrast to Golden. Golden hits all the flashy high notes, but I think “what it sounds like” intentionally doesn’t. It’s commentary on the pressure to be perfect and the ways we hurt ourselves in response My voice without the lies This is what it sounds like

I see reactions to KPDH that it’s too processed, but this gives the processing its own plot relevant meaning. Of COURSE Rumi is hitting all these high notes with a voice that seems inhuman. It’s built on a lie and her failure to accept herself as she is. Golden is about doubling down on that.

This is why I’d vote for Lander over like 98% of current Dems: he doesn’t talk about doing things, he actually does him. Of course he stood up to ICE. Of course he’s getting prosecuted by Trump. Of course he came to Minneapolis. 100 of him and we’d win comprehensively

Nick@sregorn.bsky.social

lander is that dude that shows up, underrated superpower

I think at one point I was grumpy about Ilhan Omar representing CD5, but I have no idea WHY anymore. I think I was stuck on some centrist democrat BS for some reason? I appreciate that Ilhan actually feels like a political leader.

I’m relieved Ilhan is okay and the guy who did this is in police custody. Notice how Ilhan stood up and basically said “No, I'm not done yet. I'm not going to let this guy scare me away from doing this town hall.” That's what service and patriotism looks like.

BREAKING Greg Bovino has been removed as Border Patrol "commander at large" and will return to El Centro Calif, where he is expected to retire soon. A stunning turnaround after Pretti killing. Bovino's traveling blue city crackdown is over www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

Minneapolis is winning. The tide is shifting. Can you feel it? It’s their Gettysburg. The first Minnesota is charging down the hill, bayonets drawn. This is their furthest advance and they will go no further. WE ARE GOING TO WIN

Lot of conservative dudes out there telling on themselves by being astounded by a level of ”logistics” that the average mom has to manage every fucking day

Festivity reposted

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

Voting NO on the DHS funding bill is the bare minimum. Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum. Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum. ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

Festivity reposted

Another murder by immigration enforcement in my district. I am absolutely horrified that federal agents are targeting and executing our residents instead of protecting them. ICE and CBP must leave Minnesota immediately. Kristi Noem must be impeached. Enough.

The Pretti family’s heartbreaking request to all of us: get the truth out about our son. Alex was an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA whose last act was to protect the woman next to him. We will not let this Administration spread lies.

Festivity reposted

He wasn't a domestic terrorist. A domestic terrorist was the Oklahoma City bomber. This was a VA nurse looking out for his neighbors.

Another catastrophic shooting in Minneapolis by federal agents. We are gathering more information, but ICE must leave now so MPD can secure the scene and do their jobs.

This family did every single thing they’ve been asked to in order to seek asylum here. Yet in less than 24 hours, this kid and his Dad were nabbed off our streets and sent to Texas, using tactics that can only be described as pure evil.
