The problem with the Turing test, which I discovered at least for myself with Mark V. Shaney back in the mid-1980s, not to mention Eliza in the 1960s, is that people are just far too gullible to be a reliable judge of intelligence and humanity in language.

Nic 💀 "skull" 💀 Dav@nicholdav.bsky.social

The dude who wrote End of History tried to vibecode an app but ended up doing a Her(2013) with ChatGPT (AKA "Pygmalion displacement" @olivia.science) while also failing the Turing test (sigh cc @olivia.science again)

watch this! and then ask yourself "why am I hearing this from a comedian instead of political leaders like ___ or ___ ? "

I’m not one to boast, but I was at Swanwick Marina today to buy this beauty. No apologies, I’ve worked hard all my life and this has always been a dream. I’m going to rent it out so if interested let me know. It’s the one with the dark blue cover at the bottom of this picture.

The wannabe dictator wants a party? Well then, let's show him some "love”. On June 14th, Trump is spending millions of taxpayer $$$ to throw himself a military parade for his birthday. That's why we're peacefully protesting across the nation on the 14th. In America, we have no kings. #50501Movement

THE most important political issue facing us now is our corrupt campaign finance system & Citizens United. As long as Musk, AIPAC & crypto money can buy politicians, we’re not living in a democracy. We must end billionaire control of our politics and publicly fund elections.

You know that Twilight Zone episode where the kid has amazing psychic powers and can make people disappear with his mind and the entire town is hostage to him and has to cater to his every whim? That’s us right now.

Financial contracts and products get built around the assumption of stable, independent, quality-controlled govt data. Same with building things like flood models - stable, continuous, quality-controlled data is critical. So randomly cutting monitoring data is BAD

theguardian.comTrump officials gut 25 centers that monitor flooding and drought in the USWhite House orders closure of USGS water science centers, which shares data with weather service for flood warnings

This isn't hypothetical. The coming days are bringing higher prices and disrupted supply chains, this time not because of a pandemic or a war, but self-inflicted by our country's government under this president.

I went to the Senate floor to tell a story about Trump’s first 100 days - a story of daily, norm shattering corruption. I laid out 40 different corrupt acts - each one alone could have taken down previous presidents. 1/ A 🧵 of my speech. People need to know this story.

MR PRESIDENT HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Incredibly telling moment. Trump is completely sure he is right here. We have a president that is pickled in his information bubble, high on his own supply, can't tell his administration's propaganda from reality. Next the White House will insist Trump is right!

This exchange is so very telling. Trump repeatedly claims the photoshopped MS-13 on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's knuckles is real, Terry Moran keeps telling him it isn't, prompting Trump to say this: "I never heard of you. I picked you. You’re not being very nice. He had MS-13 tattooed... Just say yes!"

Ask yourself: If the President so easily falls for photoshopped pictures he sees on Truth Social, what other complete falsehoods is he relying on when he makes decisions? How else is he being manipulated? That wasn’t funny. It was scary.

Ten years of Trump going on TV and just fucking saying whatever, and still nothing like an industry set of best practices to deal with it. Put someone on the set with a laptop to look stuff up, pause the interview, whatever. He'd walk off but so what. Amazing to still be at "agree to disagree."

“I could” Seems pretty relevant.

FactPost@factpostnews.bsky.social

Host: You could call and get Abrego Garcia back. Trump: I could Host: But the Supreme Court has ordered you to facilitate his release. Trump: I'm not the one making this decision Host: You're the president!

None of the official ABC tweets or clips from the Trump interview tonight feature the most important clip of all: a demented Trump repeatedly and falsely claiming, and seeming bizarrely to believe, that Albrego Garcia literally had the letters and numbers MS13 on his knuckles.

whining out loud during a televised interview that the reporter should let you lie bc they owe you for the interview is pretty wild

This is one of the worst interviews I’ve ever seen. Moran keeps trying to move on from a point Trump is CLEARLY WRONG ON and just says “agree to disagree.” Do your fucking job!

Incidentally, this is why I worry about the dominant position of AI critics on this site that "AI doesn't work and is just a scam" It absolutely does work, in good ways (controlled studies on education, medicine) and in ways that create risks & problems. Pretending AI isn't real is a big mistake.

Ethan Mollick@emollick.bsky.social

👀Today’s AIs are already hyper persuasive. A controversial study where LLMs tried to persuade users on Reddit found that: “Notably, all our treatments surpass human performance substantially, achieving persuasive rates between three and six times higher than the human baseline.”

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

I care less about Signal chats and more about the blacksite offshore concentration camps we're sending random people to without any semblance of a trial, so I'll be interested to see if the national media can rub their bellies and pat their heads at the same time this week. Historically they can't.

I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison. It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

Found Art reposted

Rights of due process don't depend on our personal opinions of the accused. For example, I regard the January 6, 2021, criminals as insurrectionists and traitors - yet I am still glad that each and every one of them got a proper trial before they were convicted and sentenced.

Four R senators and four R House members could announce they're caucusing with the Dems for now, and will vote for Schumer for Majority Leader and Jeffries for Speaker, because the threat to the rule of law is dire. Meanwhile, they'll work with Democrats to construct guardrails against dictatorship.
