With Epic Games in the news for dumb reasons yet again, I figure now is a good time to evangelize the good word of ZZT.
Tim already made a tool that "democratizes" gamedev to the point that anybody could do it, and 35 years later it still has a healthy community of creators free from AI's blight.
Complete dumps of 4 non-retail iQue Player consoles obtained by members of iQueBrew have been released by jhynjhiruu along with an article all about the Chinese Nintendo 64 created by BroadOn in partnership with Nintendo. Enjoy! www.gamingalexandria.com/wp/2026/09/i...
I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.
A sealed copy of a very early print of Super Mario Bros. just sold for $3 million, smashing the record for the highest-priced collectible game ever sold:

Nieuw artikel!

Having received so much love for our good old #MoonChild game, we are happy to give love back to the game community by releasing the Moon Child source files + assets.
Details can be read in the ReadMe text. We're looking forward to see what you're going to create! 💚

Thanks a lot for all the follows, everyone! I'm having soo much fun reading and viewing all the Moon Child love. 😊🙏
I'm also forwarding stuff to the other guys, including Ramon, our music composer.
Here are some pencil-on-paper concept sketches I made around the start of Moon Child development. 🙂
Thanks Norm for the awesome videos that set such a high standard for fellow historians to aim for.
I will also miss making new explosive thumbnails for your videos.
After more than 15 incredible years of making Gaming Historian, I’m moving on to new creative adventures. Thank you for an unforgettable, life-changing journey. I will cherish it forever!

We've never had a The Gaming Historian retire before. Let's hope there's a well-documented succession plan in place, so we don't end up with a dozen people in a long, drawn-out fight over their claims to the title.
Pokémon verscheen in februari 1996 in Japan.

Seems like people are reacting without even reading... They decided they didn't want this to be part of Gaming Alexandria.
You can prefer that Hubz just killed the project, but if you're still attacking Gaming Alexandria then you just want to be angry online. They literally rejected this.
lol I kept getting hit up on LinkedIn by this weird racist guy who seems to be aggressively contacting everyone he can find in retrogaming. Very difficult to maintain a public profile as "the cool retro game YouTuber" when your entire other career is "yelling about Muslims and vaccines"
Gaming Alexandria is our load-bearing pillar for access to Japanese scans and hubz is the hardest-working guy I know in game preservation, so I'd really appreciate it if we didn't destroy him with a dogpile over his vibe coding project please. Show some empathy and grace if you disagree with it.
Who coined "Metroidvania"? It wasn't @jparish.bsky.social, and he'll be the first to tell you. Besides, there are far more interesting questions, like: How did it spread? Evolve? And what's it got to do with rickrolling?
Watch til the end for a post-credits sting.

A first person shooter set in Amsterdam made by an accounting software company, a development story that ranges from the Commodore 64 all the way to Death Stranding, and a theme song that should be a chart topper, not a lost MP3.
My name's Bob, and I'll be your guide in Amsterdoom...
Press "z" to continue onto a world of fan-translated RPGS and games that never reached your region, and you only saw screenies of or heard whispers about. 🔥
New video premiering in less than 10 hours! It's a video made by me and it's about a game most of you have never heard of. How about that?

As I've been asked about Stop Killing Games quite a bit over the last few weeks. So please feel free to read my thoughts on this at length over on my blog. I'd be happy to answer any questions or comments!

Unfortunately we've had a last-minute loss from the Routledge Companion to Video Games and History, and so if there is anyone who'd be interested in contributing a chapter on the history of India in video games (from any perspective, range of case studies welcome) please get in touch asap with me!
Every time some big argument about the Video Game Crash happens, I'm tempted to do a video essay trying to explain it all in very 101 terms. One day I might even do it. But for now, here's my attempt at a Crash 101 in thread form.
