It’s just so appalling and enraging how casual and commonplace this has become. I’m out of words.

So we’re back to negotiating the JCPOA after spending billions of dollars, depleting our weapons’ stockpiles, and costing American families $2000+ due to war-induced inflation 🤷‍♀️ Plus Bibi is likely to strike again before the Israeli election, making any possible deal moot.

If a foreign leader in, say, the United Kingdom or Germany gave batshit crazy speeches featuring comments about a political ally’s ass, the New York Times would write a big story about the leader’s mental state. But when it happens in the U.S., the Times doesn’t. Why is that?

It’s beyond time to get money out of politics.

I’m alarmed that more people aren’t alarmed by Trump targeting Somali Americans and labeling them “garbage” and “crooks” who “contribute nothing.” Most of them are U.S. citizens, yet Trump says, “I don’t want them in our country.” If you know history, you know the horror this can lead to.

I'm not arguing with this point--death threats are extremely common!--and absolutely, politicians should deal with it, but I keep thinking about the fact that Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered and nobody blinked an eye.

Look, I'm not trying to be unsympathetic to the politicians in the article. But non-pols get these threats daily. Woman got doxxed and their kids threatened for disclosing they were harassed by a serial predator. I got an artisanal hand-written death threat mailed to my apartment. Deal with it.

It also doesn’t change the price since it’s a global commodity and if you can buy it cheaper here and sell it for more somewhere else, you’re going to. Which raises prices here - sooner rather than later.

So many things wrong with this "deal," but also: it's not a "massive" amount. If we actually receive 1,800,000 tons of diesel from Russia, that's equivalent to: * 3.3 days of US consumption, or * 10 days of US *exports*. It's a drop in the bucket. We send more than that overseas every two weeks.

Basic scientific research is what really makes the US a superpower.

Itai Yanai@itaiyanai.bsky.social

1. CRISPR came from basic research on bacteria. 2. Optogenetics started with a discovery in algae. 3. The GFP protein comes from jellyfish. The biggest breakthroughs all trace to scientists following their curiosity, and this is one huge reason why we must keep funding basic research!

The GOP has been working towards a 2 class society for my whole lifetime. They’re finally getting to put some nails in the coffin of the American Dream/equal opportunity, so the rich won’t have to pay taxes that are spent on anyone but themselves. It’s infuriating because society will be worse off.
