If a foreign leader in, say, the United Kingdom or Germany gave batshit crazy speeches featuring comments about a political ally’s ass, the New York Times would write a big story about the leader’s mental state. But when it happens in the U.S., the Times doesn’t. Why is that?

I'm as frustrated as you. It's a dereliction of duty the mainstream media doesn't report on Trump's both ridiculous & dangerous remarks. I also noticed the day after No Kings this weekend, protests at more than 3000 events were ignored. The front page of the Times featured protests in France!

Sulzberger doesn't want those kinds of stories. His vision is to turn the NYT into Vanity Fair. The broken down WaPo and the WSJ do more and better investigative reporting than the NYT.

Because it's OK for a bat-shit crazy transactional front man for corporations, the Pentagon & dictators to be President in the US as long as he is giving them and his rich donors whatever they want. They'll let him keep terrorizing people until he's no longer useful (incapacitated or dead).

I am aware of that story, which depicts Trump’s remarks as a mere curiosity, not a sign that his thought processes and impulse control may be deteriorating. Trump’s behavior is NOT NORMAL and is therefore newsworthy.

Mainstream media have had a subtle RWng bias & party status hierarchy for generations--treating GOP as the high status emperor party, Dems as the chambermaid party--catering to emperor, praising his new clothes/MOUs--& belittling the chambermaid party for even tiny or imaginary flaws.

Well, it's not a Democrat? If it's a Democrat having a minor slip of the tongue they think a childhood stutter coming out when someone's tired means they've lost all brain capacity forever and it's all you hear about.

Because they cannot write that story without reckoning with the bad faith of what they did to Biden even as Trump was right there, running for president while visibly far worse off than Biden.

The media (and individuals) in the US have been threatened by their own President. So, because no one does anything about removing him, he carries on and everyone gets out of his way. It seems the US President has been given too much power.

I keep thinking of Aaron Sorkin's movie about the Chicago 7. Specifically the scene in which Mark Rylance's character calls for a geriatric psychiatrist to be present at the trial, to assess the bizarre behavior of the judge. We have no one stepping up in that way, demanding sanity. Sick=normal.

After watching the interview you gave with the NYT, the tell was strict adherence to staying in the safe zone (where the advertisers are comfortable), even if it meant reframing your positions into extremisms rather than mainstream.

Patrick Healy may tut-tut you and say it ain't nice to comment on Trump's mental health if it's caused by a medical condition, but then again he clearly has a host of medical conditions they haven't reported on. If his looniness was concussion-related, the Times would be all over it.

Imagine what the NYT would have said if Biden had painted his face orange a single time. Or raped a woman. Or was mentioned in the Epstein files a million times. Or said "grab her by the pussy". Or screamed at female reporters. Or bombed civilian fishing boats or a school. Etc etc etc

If Biden had done it, the NYT would have been all over it. American media (and American voters) hold the two parties to completely different standards. And you all know it and just accept it.

Because mainstream media isn't in the information business, and hasn't been since social media came for their readers. It is closer to reality TV. They craft narratives from recorded events to keep an audience.

The NYT would front-page that story for weeks, if not months. They made the decision back in 2015 to cover Trump like an entertainer, a game show host, instead of a politician, and they've continued to do that since. They are actively helping destroy the U.S., democracy, and the Constitution.

Because it is already well-established that Trump at rallies makes rambling off-topic remarks that never seem to amount to much. He's done it for the past decade and Democrats don't seem to be that interested in making hay about it, so it is deemed to be not newsworthy.
