Hey! I'm Victor. I'm a cell and cancer biologist. My lab mainly studies CDK8/19, cell cycle regulation, and new anti-cancer drug candidates. I also love history and DnD, so don't be surprised if I follow you. I'm Russian (sorry) with family in the US, so there is occasional politics.

RIP. I know you all are Trekies out there, but he was the greatest space opera villain in the greatest TV space opera of all time - Babylon 5

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Just going to be straight here — no pun intended: I am the only journalist who has been covering this issue in depth, was often the only journalist at hearings, and was the only one explaining what DOJ was actually arguing here. Support my work if you can: www.lawdork.com/subscribe

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons — a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

I worked with—and deeply admired—Helen for almost 30 years. She was hands down *the best source* about emerging infectious diseases that I've ever known. My first warning of COVID was when on Dec 28, 2019 she reposted a ProMED mail report of an atypical pneumonia cluster: "This doesn't look good."

Come one, come all, there is a couping pirate Doge archbishop, and a shadowy bank that is also a goverment, and several other fun Renessaince shenanigans (which are all Genoa for some reason). My favorite podcast right now.

Nobel is a white boys club, but funny that this is at least the 2nd time they give the prize to someone who was denied tenure by their alma mater, and both times they were women. Of course the university again celebrated the accomplishemrs of a person they rejected. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/b...

I LOVE this episode of @99pi.org , not just because it’s a great story and the field jacket became a model for jacket design. Why do all jackets look like the M43? Because it was based on science and science works! If you design a jacket, given the constraints of materials and function and the

Well, I am actually very impressed that someone can make an app that is worse that Microsoft Teams!

The European Commission has rolled out an alternative to Microsoft Teams. But officials using it aren't impressed, with one describing the tool as “absolute shit.”

This is a wonderful story, weaving together historians, hippies, old apple tree fanatics and DNA sequencers to reveal how French immigrants in Maine brought along one of the ancestors of American apples 🧪

Scientific American@sciam.bsky.social

Apple "detectives" wanted to identify a gnarly old tree growing on a remote plot of land in Maine. What they discovered was the key to a centuries-old apple mystery.
