Ah yes. The wurst käse scenario.

I don’t know if I’ve encountered that one but they do make a godforsaken sausage down here that has cheese in it. I imagine it’s much the same mouthfeel.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

I am shocked… SHOCKED that the “we are not nazis, but…”-party is nazist when they think no one is watching.

It’s shameful that Donald Tusk plays the anti-immigrant card in this way in conjunction with the French protests. I understand that he’s squeezed in the polls by the racist right, but this is just pandering to their narrative and making the political debate more stupid.

Replying to @faineg.com

“Dad, I have HAD it with your incessant urge to shit all over my flint-knapping technique, and Grandpa did NOT do it better: I’m leaving all you assholes behind on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and dispersing the hell out of Africa.”

Tusk is happy to delay, weaken and preferably end European CO2 reduction programs because Poland has never been serious about energy transition. Sad thing is that the opposition parties are so much worse.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that he managed to secure a review of the European Union Emissions Trading System at the EU summit. Tusk has said that Poland weakened the impact of the emission scheme, known as the ETS2, adding that the work is not yet finished.

folx, I’ve been working on AI "ethics" for almost a decade now & hate to tell you there’s no such thing as "ethical AI" the only "ethical principle" that works is regulating the shit out of the industry & to take back control of our autonomy, fundamental rights, freedoms & right to exist w/out AI

After two years of the most exciting racing in the final stage of the Tour de France (since Lemond beat Fignon by 8 seconds in 1989) because of the detour over Montmartre, they're set to return to a traditional flat-track sprint finish on the Champs-Élysées. This would be a HUGE mistake.

#GoodMorning from a windy Warsaw. Today we celebrate 35 years of the Department of Electrode Processes at our Institute with a mini conference. I will give a talk in the afternoon about being a physicist with an electrochemistry group.

a sure sign that something is "highly accepted" is if you have to threaten to impose the power of the state against those who don't accept it

Oh hey! A chemistry Nobel in a field I know absolutely nothing about. Surprise surprise :)

BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2026 #NobelPrize in Chemistry to Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai “for the discovery of non-linear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis.”

Grattis till @landetannien.bsky.social ! Jag antar att läsare av @fof.se kommer att få mycket insiktsfulla reportage om det priset!

I LOVE this episode of @99pi.org , not just because it’s a great story and the field jacket became a model for jacket design. Why do all jackets look like the M43? Because it was based on science and science works! If you design a jacket, given the constraints of materials and function and the

shape of the humans that go inside it, you are going to end up with something like the field jacket. Same reason all modern cars (stupid SUVs excepted) look basically like a soap on wheels. That’s what science gives you and the design space around that is constricted.

Not far from my home the local authorities a fighting a losing battle against people’s desire paths. Every now and then, new fences are put up to keep people from crossing the lawn, and almost immediately they are removed. Time to give up and just create a proper path?!

I like how you can kind of follow the progress. At first, a single fence was put up, which led to a new path branching out to the right. Lately the fences were connected with cable ties, so a longer path developed to the left until someone cut the ties and opened the fence again.

The day before everything turned to hell. Ukrainians share their last memories of a relatively peaceful life—soon-to-be ruined by russia. Ukraine has always been a peaceful, life-loving country. Still is—after all the hatred we endured. But it will always fight ferociously for moments like these🧵

Wrapping up my first day as head of the PhD school at our institute. No disasters so far… It’s also the first time ever that I was issued a stamp with my name and position for signing documents. This is a VERY IMPORTANT THING in Poland. All important papers need stamps!

Hehe. And of course I messed up the alt text in the previous skeet. I trusted my memory a bit too much. The name of the school is „warszawska szkoła doktorska nauk ścisłych i BIOMEDYCZNYCH” and nothing else.

For the past 400 years, you could always ask Bubba, Jimmy, Pat, and Steve-O down at the pub for their advice on public health as well instead of the experts (enlightenment marking start of expertise). Non expert opinion is always available. It isn't normally useful, but it has always been available!
