I'm a lifelong avid reader. 2026 is the first year I won't hit my reading goal bc the state of books just feels...depressing right now? AI + everything is a trade paperback + I don't care for Romantasy/Dark Romance... Its just hard to get excited about much book-wise lately...

(Even AO3 is having issues with AI and thats the most depressing thing ever. The entire point of writing/fanfic is to let human brain creativity go bananas...I hate AI. Hate it.)

(Bless Chucks Wendig & Tingle and all the other HUMAN authors I am leaning on right now for taking wild creative swings in a very sad beige era.)

And you can TELL too.

Workers at three major publishing houses tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech.

personally I think we should just take the ai doomers at their word and shut it down if they’re telling the truth, well, good thing we shut it down. If they’re exaggerating, well, they shouldn’t have done that

What I read in August 2026 - THE EDGE OF SPACE-TIME, which was absolutely terrific & blew my mind a few times. (Also I read OPERATION BOUNCE HOUSE and SPOILED MILK. Both were great fun.) <3

“Be Strong enough to be gentle.” Peter Cullen tells the story of how his brother inspired the voice he would use to play Optimus Prime. It’s a simple yet poignant quote that sums up why Optimus and Peter are so beloved. Til All Are One. 💔

Lol as the Mom of a teen boy I don't need a device to tell me when a mood swing is happening. This shit is so weird.

Dolly Parton and Tim Curry were brilliant forces of absolutely relentless joy. And we need more of that both in entertainment - and in the world. <3

Really feeling the Yamamoto quote about "awakening a sleeping giant" lately. We are through the shock and fear phase and are now deep into the "every grandma and gentle parenting dad is vibrating with bloodthirst for revenge at levels I did not realize were possible"

thinking about how they were having to fire & arrest people to try to bully them into being sad about some of these fuckers, and if you want the whole world to stop and grieve your loss, there's one simple life hack: be a good person who just wants to do good things

Lot of right wing posts seem to insist that if their kids have different views than they do, another adult (they usually blame teachers or librarians) must be pushing it on them. This both misunderstands how education works and is a view that deprives kids of any agency over their own.

There’s an aggressively paid for influence op going on right now to defend AI slop as art and protected speech across platforms. AI execs realize they have a problem and don’t wanna get Marie Antoinette’d. The free ChatGPT trip is the tip of the iceberg. First person to nail it down gets a Pulitzer.

Just returned from a trip to Northern Michigan. As someone who looks forward to stopping at Tim Horton's at my highway exit bc we don't have Tim's around here, seeing the Harry Potter drinks was super disappointing. (I went somewhere else.) Sigh. *adds to the lengthening list of nope businesses*

“Have you tried putting it in Claude?” No, I have not. I am not interested in outsourcing my brain to an algorithm that steals from everyone and makes stuff up while also requiring so many resources it’s hastening the climate apocalypse.

The most unrealistic thing about The Fantastic Four movie is that everyone on earth would easily agree to turn their lights off and conserve electricity for a greater good.
