🔥 New blog post: Dark mode toggles that expose three states (system, light, dark) seem like the best option. Until you think about user goals, that is. Before rushing to disagree, hear me out. lea.verou.me/blog/2026/da... PS: As a data point, @jakearchibald.com was converted after reading this 😅

lea.verou.meDark mode toggles: two states are enough • Lea VerouYes, the underlying model must have three states, but one is always irrelevant to the actual user goal. Users do not seek out solutions to problems they don’t currently have. A lot of the hate towards...

If there were backdoors in Rust we'd have heard about the five competing backdoor implementations fighting each other.

hard pill to swallow for atproto developers/creators: 99% of potential users either do not care about, value, understand, or want to “own their own data” i see so many apps/projects lead with this “value prop”, but it’s not an important or meaningful consideration for most people

welp nvm the clutser doesnt work anymore :)))))))

What's going on at Meta?!  Meta removed support for end-to-end encrypted messages in Instagram, & now it lets users create AI images with other people's public photos? 🤯 To make it worse, users must OPT OUT if they do not want this.  Find out how to opt out here  👉 tuta.com/blog/meta-ai...

Our statement on the UK gov't's demand that all content on all devices sold or used in the UK be scanned, on the presumption of nudity, using a dystopian combination of age verification & content scanning. This proposal will not safeguard children. It endangers us all. signal.org/blog/pdfs/20...

When we took office, NYC had a $12B deficit. Today it’s zero. And we didn’t close that gap on the backs of working people. We closed it while funding parks, libraries, safer streets, & public housing. Call it Pothole Politics or Democratic Socialism: We are government that delivers for the people.

Extremely excited to read about this C cryptographic library exploit. Maybe for once it won’t be a dumb use-after-free or unchecked array access, the sort of thing that rust trivially protects against!

this is huge wtff surely this means long term funding as well

Is Anthropic making other machine learning algos in the background? Because imo LLMs (if they are talking about that) are the least scary tech in the automated mass surveillance efforts. Why burn millions of tokens instead of going for the usual Big Data™ methods?

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

A major Pentagon–Anthropic showdown is underway. The Pentagon is pushing for Claude to enable mass AI surveillance + autonomous drones, threatening a supply-chain-risk label or a defense production act takeover if they don’t. Ultimatum was issued for tomorrow. Anthropic just refused.

ill stay in school forever to keep the free copilot pro licence lmao

how long until companies start mentioning "unlimited claude code use" as a perk in job descriptions?

Uh @convex.dev any ideas as to why your throughput is so low? Is it funrun/caching overhead + accessing planetscale? Im always expecting SpacetimeDB to be the highest but I would assume yall are faster than a simple Node HTTP server.

cant wait to get to a point where effect is needed, cause they do realy cool stuff but i only do frontend in ts
