When we took office, NYC had a $12B deficit. Today it’s zero. And we didn’t close that gap on the backs of working people. We closed it while funding parks, libraries, safer streets, & public housing. Call it Pothole Politics or Democratic Socialism: We are government that delivers for the people.

Around the time religion made its grand entrance into government during the Reagan era, we stopped voting for issues that actually matter, and instead voted for or against emotional hot-button issues. As a result, we as a society have suffered & no one but billionaires & lawmakers have benefited.

I friend of mine uses the term DGAF for some people of a certain age. Don't give a f**K .Only two years to serve left as well also doesn't help the guy has always been rich Too much wealth makes you nuts most times with very few exceptions like Apple's Tim Cook who is not as rich as some think

When you are born you get a number. That's your working bee number and Trump & oligarchs are not taking care of the hive, just milking the honey 🍯 Americans are Trumps 🏧

The previous administration left him with a $12 billion deficit, which was “hidden in the footnotes”. Forced him to backtrack on campaign promises (eg, his draft budget *cut* library funding, now back to previous level). Budgeting is *much* harder if you’re trying to be accountable.

Thats incredible. Please see if you can influence policy on a federal level to do similar for the rest of us. Not even a year in and you solved so much. Youve proven these policies work. Please help get more to follow these examples.

It's a goddamn shame you're a teacher because you clearly can't tell the difference between communism and socialism.

My wife and I are counting down the days until we move to NYC. Just a few months, but feels like forever. You’re not our mayor yet, but damn are you making us proud already.

It was ALWAYS a possibility. The rich, including politicians who want to sell their votes, lied. And I bet that they didn’t leave NYC. In a matter of months—MONTHS! This is government for the people, and it exposes the bs many have peddled all along. Imagine what we could fund if this were federal

We need people to fight for federal funding to this city, we can't allow the irresponsibility of Washington politics to compromise the social welfare of New Yorkers. NYCHA needs to be funded, infrastructure needs to be funded, counter terterrosim need to be funded amoung other priorities.

Guarantee that wouldn’t have happened with corporate dem Coumo and he probably would have been to Israel 10 times by now! Thank goodness that New Yorkers can think for themselves and don’t just lap up what they’ve been spoon fed like mindless sheep!

Meanwhile, at the Whitehouse, Tacky Trump says, "I don't think about Americans' financial situation." And he's using his role as POTUS to rake in millions for himself and his family. (And billions on a war with Iran.)

Robber Barons have existed since the 1800's and have yet to " take their toys and leave" like that dumbass Ayn Rand fantasized about.

1. The mandate by the wise NYC Electorate. 2. His energy, passion, vision, integrity, and ability to bring like-minded people on board, ideologically AND practically. 3. Enthusiastic support (feedback) by The NYC Electorate upon his achievements. I'm guessing it's very difficult to say NO to him!

Not "never" I think; people eventually forget. In modern terms, FDR was basically a Social Democrat. It took about 35 years before conservative Republicans overcame that success.

Most people liked it until the Civil Rights passed and then white people lost their minds and filled in community pools, pulled their children out of public schools, and demanded that the social safety nets be abolished.

You have to remember the AFD is a byproduct of third way politics Which infested left of center political parties across the globe around the end of the cold war. They abandoned their roots and left countless voters susceptible to far right politics

Congrats! Next up, how about a land value dividend UBI? It would discourage vacancies and all other unproductive use of land and encourage more housing and cheaper rents while also reducing poverty, inequality, and insecurity. progressandpoverty.substack.com/p/land-and-t...

progressandpoverty.substack.comLand and Liberty to Build: On Georgism and YIMBYismOnly an alliance of Georgism and YIMBYism is capable of addressing rising housing costs and economic inequality

Socializing the dividends of socially created land value seems good. There‘s a huge amount of surplus in urban land value right now, and it is generally serving as income for very wealthy landowners through periodically restructured debt.

Can we please get this system nationally? We desperately need to remember that our government should be “For the People”!! Thank you for all you are doing for NYC!

Mamdani is making all politicians look bad, even so called "progressive" Democrats! And he did this, in what?, 5 months? Just like that!

I’m SO glad he is and uncovering all of their lies and bullshit. Get any Dem out who chooses to uplift and further enrich corporations over supporting and working for the betterment of working class Americans

My point about Bill Clinton was that raising taxes on the rich is a good start. Cutting services to the poor, not. But the other President quoted in this reply chain is Eisenhower. His upper marginal tax rate was 90+%; Clinton's=36.9%. And GDP was almost the highest ever! Keynesian economics rocks!

For those that don’t know, Keynesian economics is a macro-economic theory asserting that demand, total spending by households, businesses & government, drives an economy. Advocating for active government intervention through monetary policies to stabilise, prevent recessions & manage inflation.

So if it was really this easy, what the fuck have congressional Democrats been doing for the past 30 years? We need a complete overhaul of Congress. Every single Corporate Democrat needs to be replaced with young progressives like Mamdani. America has suffered long enough from a bribed Congress.

So...for the past 30 years the entire Congress -- The Senate and the House -- has been occupied 100% by Dems? Without a single obstructionist Republican? You're blaming Democrast solely for everything and not a single Republican?? Got it.

The Democrats have had their opportunities that they failed to seize. Republicans are still worse for the country economically but the Democrats have failed us too, they are just the lesser of two evils. We can’t make either party better without acknowledging the problems of both.

Hot DAMN! Read ‘em and weep, twisted nihilist billionaires! Ya scared enough to shit a brick? You know you are. McKinsey et al getting windfall business now. If the socialism cat gets out of the bag, its game over at the ballot box. Whatcha gonna do, cancel elections? Lol Tread carefully there.

Very true but policy can be worked to trim this going forward. Cutting off existing debt while patching infrastructure gaps for public good was a key policy he ran on. If he’s true to his word, a tax is already being worked on to offset.

I think the CAO & heads of departments have taken a different approach to their budgeting strategy. Sort of like the big dump snow removal strategy last winter. It was more efficient to pay residents a nominal dollar amount than to put city resources on clearing high density residential areas.

Governments typically discuss fiscal impacts in budget plans beyond just the immediate budget year. They often project multi-year effects to provide context on long-term sustainability.

I am a huge Mamdani fan but the person you are responding to is right / and any financial person knows that there is no way he actually wiped out that much of a deficit with no long term impact. That said, he is trying, which is more than any of our recent mayors have done. Every step helps.

YES, exactly… thank you for saying this. There is and never was a “better” to go back to, it’s all about moving forward with and for EVERYONE

It hasn't been six months and you were able to manage this incredible feet. What the hell was Adams doing? Oh! Corruption, say no more. Keep up the good work and tax the rich and get Hochul on board.

If he could we would all vote for him. Sadly he was not born here. He can become the governor of the state or even run for the US Senate.

This is the kind of government Americans actually want. They want committed individuals who include them in the process and are transparent about every step. The DNC tried to rip him down and now he’s one of the most popular mayors in the US

Trump’s base is ~ a third of the pop. It’s not what the majority wants, as polling shows, but Americans have been gerrymandered & don’t receive any real political education so they fall for populist messaging/cons (this doesn’t begin to touch on the racism in every part of the US)

Congrats so why not help affordability with the number one thing that would increase affordability? Singapore style stamp tax on housing. First home for citizens, no stamp tax. second home 20% stamp tax third home 30% stamp tax Corporations & entities 65% stamp tax Foreigners 60% stamp tax

Because we have to repeatedly elect competent Democratic execs & the Dem chambers to support them, not thrash back and forth with Republicans. Nationally leftists worked to defeat Harris, HRC, and Gore thus defeating economic progress, health care expansion, & environmental progress.

God bless you for all you have done. Please stay safe because the republicans don’t like your accomplishments and will try to derail everything you do. 👏👏👏❤️

If this kind of politics ever reaches the White House, millions of Americans may look back at the Obama years not as the high point, but as the beginning of what was possible. Government that lowers burdens, funds public life, and delivers dignity can restore faith in democracy itself.

This is democracy in real time: proving government is not doomed to fail, only doomed when captured by austerity politics and billionaire interests. Closing a $12B gap while expanding libraries, parks, housing, and childcare shows public money can still serve the public.
