To be honest, I always thought Harry Kane was a pretty good player, but it wasn’t until he left for Bayern that I realized how good he really was, and much heavy lifting he and Son were doing just to keep Tottenham afloat in their customary Spurgatory

One of the mysteries of the Premier League is how you can hire all foreign players and coaches and still get English soccer

Indoor smoking bans. Those of you on the younger side have no idea how pervasive it was to go out to a restaurant, a bar, even a flight and be bombarded with second hand smoke. It was awful. So glad it is gone.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I worked part time for a millionaire back in college. I asked him if he resented the high taxes he had to pay, and he told me “no… it’s the price of opportunity. I couldn’t make this amount of money in any other country”. Since Reagan came along, it’s been the billionaires getting the free lunch.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

“The internet is a store but it used to be a library” hits me like a slug to the chest

For decades I played with this old middle eastern guy who was basically the "Werner Herzog of pickup soccer". He had the same arrogant know-it-all vibe and would alternatively charm/infuriate you with his blunt observations and crazy opinions. At his most annoying when he was right. I miss him a lot

I see these guys zipping around on uniwheels like Thor from the old BC comic strip, usually no helmet, hands in pockets, dressed all in black, and I think about the kind of 💩 they would eat in even the most minor crash or collision

This is fun

The UEFA Conference League is back tonight, and to celebrate, I have created the world's trickiest flatpack/football crossover quiz: Ikea or Conference League! I give you a name. You tell me if it's an Ikea product or Conference League team! passmode.shop/ikea/

So the Sounders lost, but losing in the manner they did (on the road, conceding a legit golazo, having multiple good chances thwarted by the GK, carrying long stretches of the play) sure felt a lot different than the losses burning that long winless streak

Bodø/Glimt didn’t just beat BVB, they did it with their fullback finishing off a flowing passing sequence from just outside the six yard box. This team is for real

Bodø/Glimt finally have their goal! 🤩 Fredrik Sjøvold keeps his cool inside the box with a composed finish. Watch the #UCL on @ParamountPlus 📺

This year when we did our flower planters a Gardner taught us the concept of “thriller, spiller, and filler. It’s the idea that ever planter have a big colorful feature plant, some stuff coming over the side, and some ground cover to cover the rest of the dirt…

Seems like creating an MLS roster is almost exactly the same. The names “Thiller” (your dp’s) and “Filler” (competent but cheaper guys to complete the starting 11 and fill the bench) translate directly. We just need a more appropriate name for “Spiller”, who are the other good non-dp players

Even with his bad behavior whitewashed, it’s always been lost on me (pun intended) that we gave a national holiday to a guy who sailed for China, landed in the Caribbean, and thought he was in India.

'TNF' looks at Deshaun Watson's season 🏈 📺 Al Michaels: "If you follow football, you know the story ... we don't have to go through the whole Deshaun Watson thing." Kirk Herbstreit: "When you convert on 3rd downs, you hit passes, you lead this team to victories, those boos turn into cheers."

Sounders-KC with something like 40 shared attempts on goal tonight. Most coaches will probably be having a fit over the loose defending but I can tell you it was a lot more fun than watching the average modern game where you can go half an hour without seeing a real scoring chance

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward
