"If you set out to design from scratch a tool to facilitate authoritarian rule, it would look exactly like AI. You would cherish it for its ability to destabilise our shared reality and its creation of disinformation on a scale unprecedented in human history." What a banger to start any essay with.

This whole thread is eye-opening in the way those accounts are a new avenue for plausibly deniable corruption.

Musk would do this through those f*cking Trump Accounts they opened in every child's name without parental consent. I HATE these SO much. Parents cannot close the accounts. Parents cannot reject donations to the accounts. And we must hold on to donations for at least 5 years. I'm a state lawmaker.

Octopus is the easiest thing to cut out of your diet on moral grounds because it’s basically never around, probably has dreams and emotions and tastes like a tire.

"JK Rowling is already a billionaire and everyone already knows about Harry Potter, what's the point of boycotting?" Nobody thinks boycotting will bankrupt her. We know she's gonna die rich. We're just asking you to show a shred of solidarity with trans folk. Absolute low bar bare minimum shit.

When I was in rehab years ago and got caught drinking a Monster energy I wasn't supposed to have and was sentenced to write an essay about it, that was ridiculous, but at least a fairly proportional response

Watching Beavis & Butthead Do the Universe and you know what just occurred to me? I bet being very stoned and at a Michael Bolton concert could really rule

I gotta admit, I misread this myself the first time and was kind of into "fearmongrel"

looking at the headlines and reflecting once again on how all the smart, hard-working, honest people I know feel like they’re going at least a little insane in our era of total Stupid Immoral Asshole ascendancy

Tor Thom's unabashedly but contextually surprisingly misogynistic and homophobic voices in the Game Changer series audiobooks are basically unforgivable, but also up there is his mispronunciation of the word "toque."

Hey, Rachel Reid, if you're still writing that latest book, from here on out, no one is allowed to grin or huff. Period. Please and thank you.

Was in the backyard yesterday, reclaiming some space from all the stuff growing up through the fence, when these guys came along and made a pretty persuasive case for leaving the lilac intact

I think the reason I've been a little ambiently mad all day is because January 6th rioters are statistically the most likely group of pedophiles in the world and they clubbed a guy to death and they're going to be rich from the tax money that I give to the country I live in.

The best place to be when It happens would be a music venue mid-concert. A little drunk. A little sweaty. The news rippling through the crowd as people’s phones light up. An abrupt halt to a banger before the announcement is made from the stage. Everybody kissing like it’s V-J Day in Times Square.

A class at my kids’ school put up little statements about the good they want to do in the world and I was over the moon about this one - then I learned they meant to say “teach people in jail” which is also good!

Both for content and quality, probably the one on my ribcage that says, "nolite te bastardes carborundorum." The spacing sucks, it's fuzzy. I got it ~2014 maybe? Definitely pre-Trump, pre- Handmaid's Tale TV show. I liked the book and liked the secret pep talk

It's not hyperbole in the least to say Musk purchased a six-month shadow presidency for $280 million and used the power of that shadow presidency to 1. Steal the government’s data, 2. Permanently damage the state’s ability to regulate his businesses, and 3, kill non-white people.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

Still feel like "Musk and his crew of incels destroyed a bunch of stuff they didn't understand and thereby hastened the deaths of millions of children" did not get the public attention it warranted.

NEW on MS NOW: Rep. Jamie Raskin has introduced a bill that seeks to kickstart the removal of Trump through the 25th Amendment — a longshot effort that, while unlikely to succeed, aims to put renewed focus on the president's mental fitness and recent rhetoric.
