Sometimes finding the right line to tie off a scene takes longer than writing the damned scene itself. And, by 'sometimes,' I mean 'far too damned often!'

Well, it's that time of year, so I've scheduled a bunch of discounts until the end of the month: Psefi / K-hole / Syndrome / Exo / Black Milk. Will take a while to propagate to all the various stores. (Doesn't include Amazon, so you're better off buying elsewhere.)

The best bits in the VHS anthologies is always the most Lovecraftian segment. They should do one that's all Lovecraftian segments, it would rule.

That time someone dumped a toy house on the cemetery wall and, when I crouched a bit, some ✨ Hollywood Magic ✨ occurred.

I'm watching Laibach on the 29th and I've just realised England are playing the Czech Republic at the same time. Which means I will actually Laibach and think of England.

Sneaky reminder: I've a story in this new anthology, written mainly to address a plot hole in The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Recommended for lovers of 1920s submarines, g-men, and blasphemous horrors from the ocean depths. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0HFMF35P6

Had cause to revisit Fair Trade recently, and was pleasantly surprised by how well it still reads (given how long ago I wrote it and how annoyed I usually get reading my own stuff) so have made it free for a few weeks via non-Amazon distributors. www.smashwords.com/books/view/3...

Obviously this is impossible because Alan Moore looks like he's genetically a wizard, it's simply impossible to imagine what he would look like as a schoolboy oh there he is.

Made the conscious decision not to bring my laptop on holiday -- some foolish, idealistic notion about being present in the moment -- but a week is a very long time to go without writing anything at all. Jonesing like a fiend, now.

"Someone ought to go over the cheap magazines & pick out story-germs which have been ruined by popular treatment; then getting the author’s permission & actually writing the stories." —H. P. Lovecraft to E. Hoffmann Price, [24 Mar 1933]

Utterly enjoyed Patrick McGrath's the Wardrobe Mistress. Wonderful character writing, as usual from him. One of those stories where I'd be really curious to see a pre-edit draft. Can -- and therefore do! --recommend.

If you want a fully overwrought send-off, the opening score of the Rathbone and Bruce Sherlock Holmes films would be an absolute banger to be cremated to.
