My article "Black Heritage Sites & the NRHP" dropped today. I crunched the numbers to see if we had improved the number of listings since 2020 & evaluate claims of structural issues in the National Register. Spoiler, its not the #NRHP. 🏺#archaeology #preservation www.tandfonline.com/eprint/GRBHV...

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Back in 2016~ish I spent many hours of my professional life and tax payer money in meetings with other state agencies who were telling us we were going to have Hyperloop by 2018. Ground was being broken out by the airport & we could all get tours *soon*

With odds being tilted so far in favor of above average precipitation this winter, I thought Id capture the 1997 Flood Monument and marker on the Superintendent’s Bridge for future reference. Just down stream peak flows were 24k+ cfs in January 1997.

This article is an important corrective to the claim that Federal environmental laws are holding back clean-energy development. Their empirical finding: "environmental reviews and permitting rarely delay or block utility-scale renewable energy projects." Link in next tweet.

This is so very wrong. The fact that Trump has issued an executive order on siting data centers is precisely the problem. Because BAAJA erodes bedrock environmental protections and will make it far, far easier for Trump to leverage his executive order to site AI data centers on public lands.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

The YIMBY reaction to this story is wild. Tenants have to watch their homes be demolished, move, some twice, to new units that haven't been built yet owned by private developers with a track record of bad management. But sure, it's the tenants who are wrong.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

You can't beat fascism by agreeing with fascism. You can't beat fascists by accepting a fascist frame. Corporatist Democratic Party leadership needs to be defeated and jettisoned. We have to fight them, not because we don't want to fight Republicans, but because they refuse to.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC - @electdemocrats.bsky.social) is running anti-trans ads now, so I don't know how you can say the party itself isn't embracing transphobia. There are still some good Dems out there, but transphobia is apparently a party value.
