Back in the day I studied (and lectured in!) Sociology of Crime and Deviance. Professor @ianloader.bsky.social is an interesting and fruitful read on road traffic crime, so if this is the kind of thing you're interested in...
IT'S OUT. Our book on 'Ecologies of security: Everyday disorder in a climate-changed world' is published this week by @brisunipress.bsky.social (our = Richard Sparks, @egirling.bsky.social, Ben Bradford and me). The book is free and open access bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/monobook-oa/... 1/6
Totally - and that story must be : i) legal e-bikes are a large and beneficial part of the future of mobility; ii) so too are e-motorbikes (once they are registered, and treated as motorbikes, we should welcome them); iii) the current 'problems' take place in an environment created by and for cars.
An @adamtranter.bsky.social rebuttal to Channel 5's E-bikes: the scourge of our streets programme. Why we must stop letting the British media decide what our story is and tell it better ourselves: www.cyclingelectric.com/in-depth/cha...

But if you prefer a cute little paperback to carry around, and engage with, you can buy a copy here - bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/ecologies-of... 2/6
People need to ask hard questions about the world Waymo et al. are trying to build. It seems to me they are a solution in search of a problem; not ‘inevitable’ progress that we must roll over and accept, but a mobility regression.
Yes enforcement. But there are a whole series of car-related offences for which there needs to be consequences not standard criminal justice/penal responses. This is a case in point. It should be met with licence suspension and asset forfeiture.
"An investigation uncovered more than 130 official suppliers in the UK willing to sell cloned number plates" This is such a clear example of where the UK is good at creating laws, and often terrible at enforcing them. Laws are pointless if they're not implemented and *seen* to be implemented.

@oxfordlabour.bsky.social - We should never be opening LTNs. Apart from anything else (‘there are downsides for cyclists’; yeah children as well), it sends the message that residents have been lent them and they can be reclaimed by their (car) owners whenever they need them. #roaduserhierarchy
Cars are taking ever more public space: Join the movement to stop cars spreading all over our streets:

In the movie version of this, after Piddington runs out of food water and money as a result of leaving the UK, the residents apply for asylum and end up housed in a military base, with HILARIOUS consequences. www.bbc.com/news/article...
With a little (stylistic) inspiration from a 1959 Situationist text by Guy Debord, @jpinasanchez.eurosky.social and I have composed some 'Theses on road violence'. #motormormativity @thewaroncars.bsky.social
