Yglesias perfectly represents the savvy politico who views the actual art of politics (persuasion, leadership etc) with utter contempt and instead embraces the tactic of "chase the crowd" rather than "make the crowd come to you". This is despite history proving him wrong, constantly.

Me: "Even if it was unpopular, are you saying the Democratic Party should not speak out against the president sending migrants who have committed no crimes to be tortured in a foreign gulag?" @mattyglesias.bsky.social: "Yeah." Me: "Just stay silent?" Yglesias: "...You gotta win first."

What’s astounding to me is how “the president builds himself a palace with money given directly to him in secret by the richest people in America,” literally the most straightforward and worst executive-branch corruption story in US history, just gets shrugged at because Trump is unapologetic

Q: You said you're gonna put some of your own money into the ballroom. Are you? TRUMP: I may do that. When they run out, I'll be there, okay?

This line just stopped me cold because it just absolutely sums up the current era in one sentence. "But a government that runs on betrayal eventually finds other people, usually ones that can’t defend themselves, to betray."

Adam Kinzinger@adamkinzinger.substack.com

There’s a photograph from January of 2021 that still makes me angry to look at. Donald Trump and Kevin McCarthy side by side at Mar-a-Lago, smiling for the camera, a week after January 6th. The moment that was tweeted out, Trump’s political career came back from the dead. (link in comments)

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

Trump's panicking about the widespread revulsion against his Arch, and is trying to cloak it in national security to jam it through or go around the normal approval process. It's even more important to stop it now, as a test case of not letting him use "national security" to justify illegal acts.

People are losing their minds over this because a) Stancil Derangement Syndrome, b) Terry Pratchett and c) its an economic theory that feels good so it must be true. I adore Terry Pratchett. I think Boots Theory is an incredibly interesting thought exercise, but that doesnt mean its 100% true!

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

Since people are still relentlessly abusing me over this, here’s why the so-called “boots theory” doesn’t make any sense. First, what is it? Some people have suggested I haven’t done the background reading, but it’s not a deep idea. It’s from a passage that’s four sentences long.
