NEW ANALYSIS: Expensive gas behind "nearly 90%" of rise in UK household electricity bills since 2020 + 77% of the rise in gas bills Contrary to what you've seen in media / political narratives, net-zero is "helping to shelter Britain from the impact of expensive gas", says @acjsissons.bsky.social

olives every time i go to the shop. the meaty ones

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

olives every shop has long been my aspirational wealth thing but I think Β£25m would do it. maybe get the ones with almonds in if I’m feeling really flush and haven’t bought a helicopter that week

Did you see that it's officially a criminal offense to talk about any specifics regarding You Can See Everything on social media before it's released in the UK on 20th November? Blame A24 for this madness, but I'm sure none of you want to go to prison.

That's not what the report said, it's just what the headlines reported it as saying Yougov is very much part of the problem

YouGov@yougov.co.uk

With much media coverage of a government report that ADHD and autism are being over-diagnosed, a claim which some experts have disputed, half of Britons now believe that the conditions are being over-diagnosed Over-diagnosed: 50% Under-diagnosed: 17% About right: 17% yougov.com/en-gb/daily-...

This is a really good post especially because it doesn’t just fall into the β€˜AI is badβ€˜ trap (while correctly hitting on a lot of the problems) but points out that a combo of AI, Reddit and Martin Lewis has basically broken demand management via friction.

New post: "Drowning in slop" Large parts of the state are being increasingly overwhelmed with complaints, appeals, objections.... written by AI. It's gumming up every process. Britain is particularly vulnerable. How bad has it got and what can we do about it? samf.substack.com/p/drowning-i...

AI perhaps offers us a really great opportunity if we choose to take it. The one thing it produces is cliche. In order to resist it, we must declare a war on cliche. We must make our language and remake it. Our visual imagination should be shaken up and strive for the shock of the new.

Fun to think that we had a whole inquiry into the practices and ethics of the British press and yet a newspaper can run a splash that completely inverts the findings of a major medical study, just for kicks. bsky.app/profile/chri...

1. The independent Taskforce β€” commissioned by NHS England, backed by government β€” concluded ADHD is under-diagnosed, under-recognised and under-treated in the UK. Not over. The press has reported the reverse of the finding www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

This one raises a fascinating philosophical question: if you list your flat for Β£200k more than it is worth, have you really listed it, or are you just posting pictures of your home's interior online?
