"There should be horses pulling carriages in Central Park" is a perfect Trump position. Essentially none of his business, basically inconsequential, but squarely in the category of "tacky late-20th-century NYC tourist experience," which is the most completely developed part of his brain.

Look who's weighing in on the impending carriage-horse ban.

This is what competitive authoritarianism looks like - we still have elections, but under conditions that are not equal and not fair.

Anthony L. Fisher@anthonylfisher.bsky.social

ABC News' lawyer told a judge the network is tempering its election coverage because of government threats. The Trump Censorship Industrial Complex is real...and expanding.

That's not what you have seen, and they have not missed the point.

“I've seen secularists bemoan greater Democratic comfort with religion as a kind of erosion of church and state from the left. But they miss the point…It is purposefully and strategically countering a dangerous ideology rooted in a form of Christianity.” @hollybfletcher.bsky.social with a must-read

Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

I asked him if he ever got any bulk orders, or had thoughts on how to scale up or manufacture them more efficiently. He looked at me like I was crazy. He *likes* doing them one at a time, it's his passion, and since he lives in a civilized country, he doesn't *need* to worry about scaling up.

This story is so very Republican. A barbaric government run by people too stupid to listen to experts, so they can’t even carry out their own murderous policies according to plan. Violence and idiocy.

"We take no pleasure in being right, but the concerns raised by Ms Pike proved to be true: difficult vein access, blown veins, degraded pentobarbital, no emergency medical care available when things inevitably go wrong, all under a protocol that remains veiled in secrecy."

Student journalists still believe that it’s more important to hold powerful people to account than it is to hold on to access to those powerful people. They haven’t become Savvy Insiders yet

I think it’s fair to say that the student journalists at Cornell are braver than the news networks who just gave up on their WH pool ban even though CNN is still being denied access. www.cornellsun.com/article/2026...

I would add to this that the whole point of an academic publications is that they are supposed to be records of things you have learned through careful scholarship. If they contain non-existent references, they are a misrepresentation of what is assumed to be the process behind the product.

Agree with this & I'd broaden it: as income inequality increases, the affluent class increasingly strains to free itself of public services. Those services suffer & the flywheel accelerates. Only way to stop is to say, for certain things, no: you have to use the same shit as us.

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

An edcuation policy soloution that would get you killed by angry parents but also fix like 60% of problems after a couple of generations is children being randomly assigned a public school within ten miles of their house. That is the school you attend and you cannot transfer.

this is usually the conservative play with unpopular wars — of course I support ending it, but ending it by *winning* not your bad plan of ending it by *losing* — like no one ever thought of winning the war before they suggested it

Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, who's running for Senate, says the Iran war "needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end." A messaging pivot: Hinson voted NO six times on House resolutions directing Trump to end the Iran war — including as recently as last week.

This doesn’t answer the deeper question of “what the fuck good is all that money when climate change kills us all?” But it’s good to have an inside window I guess.

David Ho@davidho.bsky.social

A common response is "if they know this, why keep drilling?" At BP, many have not internalized the stakes personally. At ExxonMobil, the stakes are well understood, but they're locked in a race for market share, believing if they don't extract it, a competitor will.

FWIW I think Starship Troopers is tricky b/c it depicts a fascist *utopia.* Most of what we learn about fascism are the warning signs of its advance: agitation about the “enemy within,” etc. In the movie that enemy has already been vanquished, so we don’t see the societal tension we’d expect.

The bar for progressive policies is: "did this unilaterally solve the entire gigantic systemic issue without making a single person sad?" The bar for conservative policies is: "did the people pushing this yell out the name of a real problem before doing something unrelated, cruel and ineffective?"

Sounds like it's time for somebody at Google to cease being a useful idiot for fascism and instead make an active decision to go in and change names in Maps directly.

Sadly, it does not. The form shown here is to report an incorrect address on a business or other human-created place that has been added to the map overlay. You won't be able to submit the form unless you add a bunch of nonsensical info (such as street address).

the fact that democrats can decide to something pointless, like risking midterm success to censure an annoying streamer, and a whole cadre of voters will dutifully fall in line is super instructive on one point: if democrats decided to do smart things those same people would fall right in line
