Once upon a time—long, long ago, long ago, a little while ago, right now, and tomorrow—a house was haunted, and no one knew why. The woman who built it held seances. The families through the years suffered and wondered. And a ghost hunter came with a machine and a crew seeking to solve the mystery.

NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

Halloween downer: “Double double, toil, and trouble…” all us nerds know is from MacBeth. Came up in natural conversation at work. Pulled up the quote, started reading aloud—until, “Oh yeah, Shakespeare was antisemitic…” 😬

I live in deep red Oklahoma, the ads on TV are atrocious. In purple Tulsa, I have seen way more yard signs for the Dem Gov candidate than the R’s. I’ve seen more PAC ads than the R candidate’s. I would not be surprised if he still wins. Today I saw a “Vote Red” sign and just felt gross.

Meanwhile none of us are getting raises because those ceos are raking in so much. I wouldn’t mind $4 gas if I wasn’t living paycheck to paycheck. Shouldn’t profits during a crisis be criminally investigated?

I would say Cheesecake is *elitist—in they charge too gd much for mediocre food by making overpriced novelty cheesecakes and a faux *Italian vibe painted on plastic columns. It’s where you go to spend a lot of money feeling fancy, but really getting ripped off. So—yeah, that’s what 45’s done to TWH.

THE FACTORY

Ride shares & door dashers is the scenario I think of, both for the driver’s protection/comfort and that of the others they’re serving. I’ve been masking since day one. I also work in print. Lots of paper and ink dust. I haven’t had much more than a head cold. Masking works. Shut up, Bobby Roadkill.

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

The economy is great, you just need to eat the dog food parts (no offense to dogs)!

RFK Jr. suggests Americans can more easily afford groceries if they start eating liver instead of beef: "Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. You can buy liver or the cheap cuts."

I think this is the place where artificial intelligence and whatever the fuck genAI actually is (a thief engine made by thieves) has broken things. Screen readers for the visually impaired are good! It’s a tool for accessibility, not a shortcut for one of the oldest arts: spoken word storytelling.

*Washington owned slaves while talking about these freedoms, we need to reconcile the true harms alongside the idealistic notions our founding fathers lived with. We can keep the best parts while acknowledging an urgent need to jettison anything that would undermine freedom’s protections.

Bluesky says they’ve fixed this. That it was an error. Would they have fixed it if no one said anything? Stay vigilant.

A reader sincerely compared me to Elmore Leonard this week. Tough to top that, but selling a few more copies of Shivering in Hell might do it! Less than $5 on Kindle, or FREE if you have Kindle Unlimited. a.co/d/03zIOrju

this is beyond fucked whether you follow any SW's or not, the fact that you are even on this platform is thanks in a large part to the SW community driving traffic in the early days. SW and trans people helped Bluesky win the clone war, and the leadership has done nothing but fuck them over since.

Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

Evil Dead (2013) mixed a more gruesome horror while staying true to Evil Dead tropes. The Deadites are funny pests, there’s too much gd blood (it rained blood!). Plus, the Delta 88 being there makes it an interquel to 1 & 2 in my head canon. Like, Ash forgot 1 but feels pulled back for 2…
