In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Well - I may not be the only one dealing with this - how do we keep our industry afloat when it’s catering? www.the-scientist.com/academic-sci...

I had 2 grad students freak out on me this week because they don’t understand how they will have employable skills when robots and AI exist. Anyone else getting this? Am I not talking about story telling and critical thought enough? Why do kids not think the robots still need overlords?

Industry, philanthropists. Now is the time to support fellowships. This generation needs to imagine their future if they are the ones to rebuild and innovate.

Just me, finally hoping someone is using the transcriptional activation of additional chaperones to determine true physiological preferences, but no....I mean, what does growth temp really tell us? Sure Topt means something, but I want to know when they freak out.

Sometimes eldercare means navigating complicated legal issues that deal with large sums of money and deadlines. Very thankful for friends, and the brother of my sister in law who is a lawyer, for their free advice. Seriously get yourself a realtor friend, they love to run comps and know lawyers.

How I know I’m not dissolving into a total pessimist despite living through what seems to be a constantly burning dumpster fire : I’m 698th in line for a Libby book. Delaware libraries…pay nothing in taxes, get little in services. This is the way.

First, Rudy Giuliani booked Four Seasons Total Landscaping. Then Senator Schmitt confused the Atlanta Hawks with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Now a GOP super PAC spent $25,000 campaigning in the wrong Portland. These people want to redraw America's borders but can't find the places on a map.

This Indigenous Peoples' Day, we honor and recognize the Lenape and Nanticoke peoples, whose ancestral lands include Delaware, and whose resilience and contributions have long enriched our state.

Well, I'd like to just stay a marine microbiologist, but....my sibling is entering a clinical trial. So any peeps out there who are in biomedical land and want to tell me more about ERAS 0015, I'm all ears. It's a KRAS inhibitor, and he's got a specific KRAS mutation. Fingers crossed. 🤞

Also - a single amino acid mutation....we have the tools to fix this. Why aren't we fixing this?! I'm going to be mad at biology if a glycine changing to an asparagine is what takes him out.

Long live the day I girl bossed too close to the sun and managed to get my email address on the main account for the entire university so every month I get everyone’s QIAGEN invoices for my entire university. 🤘

NEW: In March the White House released an FY27 budget request that zeroed out the National Science Foundation's directorate of Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE). For months it was unclear what would happen. Now, with FY26 over, the damage to SBE is coming to light. My reporting:

Our department has collected $750 in doordash gift cards and has already filled 3 weeks of a meal train schedule for our ill student. My heart is full, hopefully so is their belly.

It’s a quintessential French experience when your institution is blockaded by protesting students. This is precisely what American students should have done when their institutions began capitulating to the Trump regime.

File this one under: Pretty Bad Ass. Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Nathaniel Rateliff, Tom Morello & company at Power on the People last night, ripping “Fortunate Son.”

Just day drank with the grad students. We were all at a 5K fundraiser and I had already grabbed a table to manage food and beer and told them to join my friends so they could do the same. Gotta look out the kids, right? Gave one of them my wristband for more beer.

I see one positive change. At present, changes to IBC permit (eg. addition of BSL1 organism or even protein expression plasmid) requires the full IBC meet (which only happens monthly here). This change would allow one or a subset of IBC members to approve certain changes.
