There are so, so many verified diaries of white Union soldiers at the beginning of the war saying "I don't know about this, I condemn the deplorable violence" and then they get down there and see slavery with their own eyes and immediately go "John Brown was right we gotta kill these motherfuckers"
And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

Aaron Swartz was hounded and persecuted by overzealous prosecutors for a mass JSTOR download until he committed suicide. Sam Altman says that he deserves to violate copyright law in perpetuity because otherwise he can't make a fortune from a large language model. We are in the wrong timeline.

And here's the problem: the Mormon Church allows abortion under the common exceptions ... but lots of individual Mormons do not. Idaho's laws are stricter than the church because voters are stricter than the church (and, by their own reasoning, God).
One Idaho Latter-day Saint said she is glad the church spoke against Prop 1, saying there is no excuse “to kill the baby in the womb simply because women these days are too faithless to trust that God will help them through any challenge.”

Amanda’s point here is both critical and hopeful: Fascism, by its nature, will eventually fail, because it selects for incompetence. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTUkuthnM/
Everyone has forgotten you can legally just reply with “losersayswhat”.
“Everyone considers it fucking nuts.” Inside Apple, I'm told "not a soul" supports Donald Trump's Lake Ontario rebrand to "Lake America," but the company is also resigned to making such concessions to avoid the White House's rage. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/apple-maps...

A caucus of violent, drunk ex-husbands controls three branches of government and both chambers of Congress.
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"

Not only did they absolutely beg for this, they made it so that “merit” was synonymous with being white so now you’re stuck with precisely the kind of moron who believes that. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

We had a little whiteboard in the back room of the grocery I used to work at. For months my coworkers would write song lyrics and little jokes on it. My manager hated my ass so the day after I took a turn there was a big notice saying THIS BOARD FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY
I want to hear about the weirdest/dumbest time you got into trouble at work. Me? I once released a product on time. Anyway, it’s been a hell of a week at sea, sir. 🫡

Bluesky knew the strait of Hormuz, Graham Platner, and AIPAC democrats were all cooked months before the experts did. Meanwhile Twitter was convinced Spencer Pratt would win and the Odyssey would bomb. Which site is the not-real-life echo chamber again?
extremely funny to me that analysts whose entire job is to think about these possibilities are only now catching up to Bluesky Consensus

Whatever could be said about that claim when he made it in 1962, it soon became undeniable that government vaccine research, distribution, and mandates are objectively among the greatest achievements of civilization. Claiming otherwise is embarrassing, it's like saying you don't wash your hands.
"The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus." — Milton Friedman. They were driven by individual liberty and free markets. And they always will be.
