Epi week Sept 20-26 - the trend for Covid rates increasing is consistent. Makes sense when you hear about people getting sick all around! Flu A is starting to move up but will need another week or two to see the trend.

Trend for Covid continues Sept 27 - Oct 3 levels are high, Flu A is also clearly heading up. Fall vaccine campaign should be earlier! Covid has been high in Aug/Sep for past couple years.

New Covid wastewater data from Sep 24, ⬆️ trend consistent. Epi week Sept 13-19 (a bit closer to current). If someone has the “flu” or “bad virus” this is the likely culprit. Similar trends in the other monitored sites in BC. Flu/RSV still low Say safe 😷 up Clean air Get your vax when you can

The tech industry has learning that overhyping the threat of its products is great PR. It leads to tons of free press, and now it’s allowing them to shape the regulatory discussion of their products — while distracting from the real ways people are being harmed today disconnect.blog/the-media-ha...

Here's something I've been working on for a while, that I'll be getting into a lot more soon. This is where Land Acknowledgements come from, this is what they mean, and this is how you've all been doing them wrong.

This has been in the works for a while. What @rjjago.bsky.social delivered went far deeper than we could've hoped. It gives us a lot to reflect on in our work but also will hopefully contribute to the much wider conversation.

We can talk about the broader reasons why (society is ableist, want to forget “the pandemic” etc). However! Primary care providers could play a key role - and many aren’t aware and think that Long Covid is “over” or psychosomatic. Lots of tools exist eg bc-clmf.org/primary-care...

At a certain point I have to ask myself if I got all this pedigree and spent decades doing research and building things to then spend the rest of my life attempting to come up with good arguments as to why the Cookie Monster isn't real.

Please be mindful about what you say online right now about climate change — especially if you are a scientist. Young people on TikTok, Instgram, and Reddit are giving up on their activism and future education/careers because they are interpreting our posts as saying that things are truly hopeless.

Justin has succeeded in creating some BC community drama, just the tonic we needed to take our minds off all the stupid things going on in BC and around the word. Thank you for your service 🫡

people in prince george are big mad that barkerville is considered a roadside attraction for this bracket and to that I would say: - around a dozen people nominated it months ago - it fits with the spirit of the competition - if you can't beat barkerville, you aren't beating cathedral grove

After a nerve-racking evacuation, workers who had come to B.C.’s Okanagan to help bring in the fruit harvest were told they couldn’t stay more than two nights and three days in emergency shelters for wildfire evacuees — because they’re not B.C. residents. thetyee.ca/News/2026/08...

If Mike Flannigan is scared about potential for new fire starts, pay attention ⬇️

Mike Flannigan@mikeflannigan.bsky.social

Another active fire day in BC but what scares me is the lightning forecast. Expect lightning in BC for the next 9 days. It is bone dry in parts of BC so if we see the lightning, we could see many new fire starts. ECMWF lightning density maps for Monday and Tuesday.

Mike Flannigan@mikeflannigan.bsky.social

This is our climate change reality. BC is at the sharp end of the climate change spear in terms of fire in Canada. Graph below shows annual area burned in BC 1950-2026. Top 6 years have been since 2017 and BC has experienced more area burned during 2017-2026(red) as compared to 1950-2026 (green).

British Columbia's premier David Eby is about to do a press conference on the wildfire situation, including Summerland. Officials from BC Wildfire Service, Ministry of Emergency Management & Climate readiness, etc., will also be in attendance. #bcpoli

I mourn for the Okanagan that once was. As a kid in the 70s and 80s, fire was always a part of the landscape, but now it rapidly engulfs and consumes. Sending strength to those who have been evacuated, and comfort to those who have lost homes and places they love.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

Bradley Creek fire is now well north and east of Hwy 97 into Spallumcheen. Fire is moving quickly … areas previously under alert have switched to evac orders over the day. Throughts and 🙏 with friends & family in Vernon area who have evacuated, heartbreaking to see my hometown in this state💔 ❤️‍🩹

I don’t understand how this got published. It would be akin to saying “seatbelts don’t save lives” because of a study when people who didn’t use them properly had just as bad injuries as people who didn’t use them at all.

Mark Ungrin@mark-ungrin.bsky.social

Not only did only ~12% of participants get in-room HEPA (sharing common areas with the other 1,570 who didn't, with "up to 5" shared HEPAs), in-room HEPAs were only (reportedly) "usually" (which is...not a scientific unit of measure! 🙄) turned on. For "pragmatic" read "sloppy"

Touching tribute to Michael Coyle. Not mentioned in the article - he was a knowledgeable and thoughtful advocate for covid awareness and clean air, and made many positive contributions here to share information and help others.

I appreciate that he’s addressing this head on and for the most part I think he at least makes a reasonable argument, whether or not one agrees with it. But one bit that I think is dubious and reckless is claiming that sticking with the existing plan would’ve made life more expensive for Canadians.

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

Carney: The climate plan we inherited from the previous government was well-intentioned and well-suited for the times in which it was designed ... In the current environment, the old plan was an open opportunity for those people who wish to pull Canada apart, both at home and from abroad.
