You should read this, and listen to this record when it comes out. This insanely well-connected man has really interesting things to say about jazz, spirituality, Los Angeles and the art of the arranger.

this might rank as one of the most important outcomes of the night if it happens. would give dems the ability to begin to make north carolina a democracy
Listen if HaDemokratim led by Gilad Kariv were polling at 35 seats and looking to form a coalition including Raam and the Joint List with the goal of withdrawing Israeli presence from the West Bank, I might be excited and you might have a point. Alas, they're polling at 8 seats.
Yes, the point of the embargo and sanctions is to pressure Israelis to elect leaders who will adopt different policies. Unfortunately none of the potential prime ministerial candidates support adopting different policies.
But I thought the point of the embargo and sanctions was to pressure Israelis to elect leaders who would adopt different policies?
It sounds like Congresswoman Tlaib doesn't think Israel should exist at all.
For my last Better Win a District, I wrote about TN-09. Republicans gerrymandered Memphis, the Blackest city in Tennessee, out of a seat in the House.
Or at least they tried. Then along came Justin Pearson.
Now TN-09 is a real fight.

Putin told Stubb and Støre that if Zelenskyy were to visit Moscow, all necessary conditions, including security, would be provided, according to Ushakov.
Brazilian federal police are checking border crossings to see if Flávio Bolsonaro fled the country after losing the presidential election, Folha de S.Paulo reports.
It's incredible how hard people find this level of pragmatism to process, but it is an EXCELLENT illustration of the kind of way we all do draw our own personal red lines in any case even if we don't admit it publicly.
i think "vote dem across the board, but for the 4 very worst dems on trans rights you can leave them blank" is a reasonable position
(& a reasonable compromise between vbnmw & fears about dems going full uk labour)
Imagine being so brutally, one-dimensionally self-caricatured, that pretty much anyone who's heard of you would read this and know instantly that it is about you.
It's like he comes so pre-disgraced that he gets the racism as a freebie. So the Telegraph, or The Critic, or Talk TV, or the BBC, or RTE in their hurry to launder his transphobic bigotry as "controversial" just skip right by the fact he thinks black people can't act or muslims are beneath contempt.
There are times on here when I’m not quite sure of the difference between a reactionary worldview and a ‘progressive’ one. What the fuck is ‘inigeneity’? Do we really want to go down a blood and soil route hmm? Callipers but WOKELY.
now look I'm just a dumb British dipshit who likes to talk silly, but I just don't feel like getting Comey on the front pages just before the midterms is clever of these guys
Accidentally stumbled on this, and now trying to work out the levels of irony in something from the American podcast with the most British name that has ever existed, and it's destroying my mind.
anyway white working class red staters are dumb trash, this will likely never change because in the aggregate if they aren't dumb trash they stop being working class red staters

if your answer to "I know what plays with white working class (red staters)" is anything other than "dumbshit slop from some idiot rich guy cosplaying as a yokel," you don't actually know anything about white working class red staters
In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

But even if you don't care about Israelis, I don't think people appreciate just how much this kind of democratic backsliding influences policy and geopolitics. People who do not believe voting matters and that their representatives answer to them do not produce good governments.
This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...
In about 24 hours, poles will open here in Israel. In what is a strong contender for Israel’s most critical elections. The election pits Netanyahu’s extremely unpopular coalition against a non-coherent, but moderately more liberal, opposition. Here are some thoughts as we head into it.
This guy went from being the leader of the lowest gang in the food chain in late 70s South Bronx to turning his life around and working on Wall Street in the mid 80s
So Americans are tying themselves up in knots with class anxiety about whether it's OK to call this bad taste.
And like, guys, you clearly have never been to Italy.
Ehud Olmert, former Israeli prime minister, calls the current head of state, Benjamin Netanyahu, and members of his government, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, a "group of thugs" on #EuropeToday as he discusses the country's upcoming election.
