Do people really not understand basic statistics? I ’ve been polled once by phone by Gallup. And statistically, that is a total anomaly. Ask people this. “What are the odds of you being elected president? Yet every 4 years someone is.”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Mike Johnson: "When I'm in these big arenas, I ask for hands -- 'Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months.' There will be like three hands among 300 people. I'm telling you, these polls are off. All of them."

I stopped donating to candidates because of fatigue from crap like this. And due to my most generic gmail address ever, I get signed up for things like trump's email lists all the time. *EVERY SINGLE EMAIL* is crafted to extract money from and confuse seniors. It's disgusting. I'm tired, y'all.

Just as a private equity firm buys out a corporation and strips it for parts, a consultant class is raiding the Democratic Party and getting “generationally wealthy” along the way New from me and @adambonica.bsky.social newrepublic.com/article/2163...

I see a bunch of trend following people clutching their monocales in horror at IA's use of claude / LLMs to patch their systems. 1) Grow up. If it's so important to you that only "authentic, heritage human code" be used to fix IA's infrastructure, why don't you donate the extreme $$ needed?

An update from Brewster Kahle on today's outage.

2) Unless you are doing net-facing engineering, you can't really understand the sheer magnitude of the vulnerabilities disclosed in the last 24 hours. It would be impossible to address them all by hand in the time frame permitted.

3) An LLM is a *tool*. Are you going to punish a painter for not making his own canvas or paints from raw pigment? LLMs can perform the super-detailed, super-intensive parts of software development that few engineers practice day to day. In this way, it's a force multiplier. Not all AI is slop.

The Roads Have Eyes! 👁️ Turn on the Surveillance Layer in Map Options to see known license plate readers from Flock Safety, Motorola Solutions (Vigilant), Genetec, Axis Communications, Axon, Leonardo (ELSAG), Neology, Rekor, PlateSmart, Ubicquia, Verkada, and other outdoor surveillance cameras.

Is there anyone who still believes that Twitler’s “organic” and “populist” traffic and discourse is real? But the so-called independent journalists can’t resist that dopamine hit from view counts, can they?

How interesting. Detailed data visualizations are a favorite of mine, too!

I wrote about how Trump is treating presidential power like it's his own possession and using it to punish blue states — but also about how at least he's promised lots of cash for all of us. www.ctinsider.com/columnist/ar...

When you have Musk single-handedly pouring more than a quarter of a billion dollars into the election, perhaps Gov. Newsom is reading the room and realizing you can't get elected president under the current rules without a billionaire sugar daddy. This observation is in no way supportive of that.

David Sirota@davidsirota.com

Newsom is now the nation’s most prominent Trump Democrat — a governor aggressively using his power to empower & enrich Trump’s billionaires. If a Dem candidate successfully spotlights this in the 2028 presidential primary, they will have a shot to defeat him & win the nomination

He will only switch if the Dems gain 51 senate seats, including his. Otherwise, he'd just become another irrelevant cog in the right-wing hate machine, ignored in the media he craves.

The hardline pro-Israel senator has been flirting with the idea of switching parties. Now he’s using Republican campaign infrastructure.

Flock takes their privacy very seriously. But the ethical gray area in surveillance technology works both ways. Under no circumstances should elected officials or public servants enjoy an expectation of privacy when spending tax dollars to attend a surveillance lobbying event.

They made them take down the videos because they would cause "reputational damage" to people like this young man, Nathan Cavanuagh, so definitely don't post this all over the internet with the name Nathan Cavanaugh attached, or this guy might suffer reputational damage. This guy, Nathan Cavanaugh.

This is Nathan Cavanaugh, another DOGE staffer explaining how he flagged grants at NEH for "DEI" which would be reviewed for termination. 404 Media has reviewed hours of this footage and we'll have more soon. Part of a lawsuit by @acls1919.bsky.social, @modernlanguage.bsky.social + @historians.org

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

But then how would the DNC use this issue in their fundraising texts and emails?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

If Trump is really stealing spending power from Congress then it would be insanity for Democrats to vote to fund the government later this month. Shut it down until the president stops wiping his ass with the Constitution.

Needs one more version... the "I needed to kill some time and look busy so I ran the build task again" numeral.

The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

We are literally at the point where he is openly saying "What the fuck you gonna do about it, libtard?"

Trump in a single gaggle on Air Force One just threatened: -- a second strike against Venezuela -- Cuba -- Mexico -- Colombia -- Iran -- Greenland (which in turn would be an attack on the EU and Denmark)

I previously used Waterfox, and switched back to Firefox several years ago for convenience (profile sync, mainly). I'm now switching back to Waterfox. You should to, especially if you're a Chrome or Edge user. With those browsers, *you are the product*, not the customer.

I'm sure my social media is going to be flooded by people expressing the outrage at this shooting. About how there is going to be some huge memorial in an arena where the evangelicals gush about all the people "accepting Christ" And anyone who says anything negative about it deserves censure. Right?
