Sure but ideally that "stuff" to get “done" is convicting Trump, dismantling his regime, and putting a lot of people on trial. I don’t have any faith in Dems doing that, but it’s the only real step to fixing this mess and I won’t really believe you’re interested in democracy until you at least try.

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

Short form video is a bad medium for discourse, and it’s unfortunate that the internet is so oriented around it. Whenever I post a short clip from a podcast episode as a promo, someone on YouTube will argue using a point we address on the show, but I didn’t include due to the time constraint.

Like, sorry, I didn’t include every caveat, clarification, or counterargument in the 1 min video I posted as an advertisement. If you’d like all that, that’s going to require a medium that requires more than a goldfish attention span.

53. More movies. It's Horror Month on @fruitlessmedia.bsky.social so I joined @josiahwsutton.bsky.social and @jackaljackal.bsky.social to talk about an old movie that I watched in a theater before they were born: Creepshow. Mixed segment quality and *really* mixed on how the segments aged.

Link to the full episode downthread. This was a blast. The recording, not the movie, which was uneven. @stephenking.bsky.social as an actor was a highlight. I was so young when I first saw it, I was stunned when he appeared on screen.

HORROR MONTH CONTINUES! On today's episode, @jackaljackal.bsky.social and I were joined by @ugarles.bsky.social to talk about George Romero and Stephen King's 1982 horror anthology, Creepshow. Available wherever you get your podcasts.

If you liked the EC Comics episode on the Patreon, go check out the newest video from friend of the show, Stephen, talking about the infamous comic that helped effectively ban horror comics for decades.

Cheesecake Factory is one of the more fun places to pick up from as a DoorDash driver because they make it feel like a shady deal. I have to knock on a side door, and then after a few mins, someone peeks out and goes "For Cathy?" "Yes." They hand me a bag and then close the door.

I despise how "adulting" has just become an actual term people use. It was a bit annoying when it was a quirky millennial term on cutesy memes with an illustration of a kitten or whatever, but I’m hearing it get used nonchalantly in ad reads now. This can’t just enter our lexicon, guys. No. Stop.

The term "adulting" should never be used in a dispassionate voice like it’s just a normal, descriptive term. I’d love it to never be used at all, but at least using it in the baby talk meme way is honest and merely cringe (a forgivable crime).

there’s no such thing as “strategic bigotry.” I know this because there is no amount of money you could pay me to become a bigot. the democrats who do this agree to do it because they’re bigots

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

goddammit man

A while back I was making fun of people who were saying the Falcons logo looks like a Nazi emblem, and it appears that someone at the Falcons saw those posts and thought: what if we stuck it on a very Nazi looking flag to make Josiah, specifically, look like an idiot.

You'll hear conservatives say that mental illness started with Millennials, then you read a 200 year-old book and it's all gay guys throwing themselves on the ground in weeping fits or manic ladies beating their brains out against the wall and everybody's like, "Yeah that happens sometimes."

Jackal got me reading comics again. This was a really fun one

This is honestly stunning. Not that I have much fondness for American evangelicalism at this point, but I felt like the rank and file would at least *claim* that empathy is foundational for them (even if their actions would say otherwise).

Hello I am a Canadian IRL who moved here from the US and no it does not kinda suck and no these are not accurate representations of how Canadian healthcare works, despite its real flaws and creeping privatization.

Sky Marchini@sky.skymarchini.net

also, and I know this is not the point, but knowing a few canadians IRL: their healthcare system kinda sucks. it's not transferable between provinces without a 3 month waiting period (and for short trips, for quebec), it doesn't cover most drugs, and then there's the "you should kill yourself" thing

This happened in 2020 before the no surprise bills act. It was not a paperwork error - we had to show evidence to the hospital that we were unable to pay. So yeah, dealing with this for 2 years while also managing the health of a preemie during COVID colored our perception of the health system.

A lot of hit dogs hollered at this comic when it got posted. They found it more consoling to believe their detractors rejected the very concept of math, instead of that replying to someone's personal travails with "you're wrong, and possibly lying" makes the replier look like a snotty piece of shit.
