Legacy media has been complicit in covering sexual abuse and violence to protect wealthy men, mostly white, for decades. The scrappy newcomers do not have the same aversion to investigating and reporting on SA/SV stories.

Good morning -- three (unrelated) things: 1. Regularly stepping away from social media is a good thing. 2. Repetition and building new (good) habits is hard at any age, but age and ADHD make it extra spicy. 3. Get out and vote, and help others to do the same. Learn from Brazil, Serbia, and Hungary

A reminder that an independent and effective board of directors would remove a CEO if they behaved as Donald Trump has behaved for (checks calendar) 40 years, but in particular, now. Not removing him now is gross dereliction of duty. Congress serves as our de facto board of directors.

Trump on renaming things: "We have a lake, we have a gulf. We need a river, an ocean, and a strait. So I've got the strait. That's the Strait of Hormuz. We're gonna call it the Trump Strait ... I want to change the the name of the Atlantic Ocean to the American Ocean."

One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen: Bhattacharya will chat with RFK Jr’s kooky science adviser, Martin Kulldorff, the dude who got $ from suing HPV vaccine makers, about how “science is under attack”🤣 Jay, RFK & Martin killed, banned or censored science that they hate—they are the attackers!

This relives 2.5 years' worth of work in 12 minutes. Marcy puts it in stark terms that the mainstream media refuses to even consider. Did what I could to help stop the worst sellout of my country and freedom in American history (derogatory).

A reminder that the Civil Rights Movement in the United States was a coalition of Black Americans, Jewish Americans, unions, and religious organizations. It terrified wealthy White Americans and led to the rise of organizations enabling and supporting inequality, racism, and discrimination.

Working together against all forms of discrimination and inequality, and building organizations that represent and support communities can pull us away from where we are now, both in the US and around the world. People working together for rights and equality have done it before and will do it again

Replying to @indivisible.org

There's no reason to trust claims from Trump, Patel, or Blanche considering their histories of abusing authority for political retaliation. Federal prosecutors must take a stand against this continued weaponization. No president should be able to use the justice system to settle political vendettas.

Today’s indictment of Virginia state senator L. Louise Lucas is yet another politically-motivated attack from the regime. For years, we have watched the president weaponize federal law enforcement to go after his political opponents — especially Black women who stand up to his destructive agenda.

(Re)building investigative reporting, fact-checking, and objective editorial decision making isn't cheap. And rounding up sustaining money is hard work. @thebarbedwire.com is doing great work and deserves your support if you can.

Seems like a good time to mention that we had to do layoffs at the Barbed Wire a few months ago because we were already operating on a shoestring budget and promised funding fell through. (Read: donor backed out.)

Finally! A front-page story about the “growing sense of alarm that Trump will harm American democracy by undermining the integrity of the vote to keep the Republican Party in power.” I was just going to write about the media ignoring this. Maybe I still will. wapo.st/4z2uENE

A long and well-supported thread on the seditious Leonard Leo and his intentional corruption of organizations and people to achieve the goal of a Christian oligarchy without that messy need for the consent of the people. Thanks @jennycohn.bsky.social.

Woah. It appears that the anti-abortion “Ethics and Public Policy Center”—whose board includes Catholic Right SCOTUS “puppet master” Leonard Leo—is spearheading the push to strip the American Bar Association of its accreditation authority. 1/

The Trump Regime and much of Silicon Valley's disregard for data governance, accountability, and transparency is a huge issue. Rational decision making and trust amongst groups and individuals depends on knowing both what and why actions are taking place. Thank you @laylaayanna.bsky.social

Most folks don't understand that a well-educated, (mostly) apolitical officer corps and carefully tended and bounded military civilian relations largely kept the United States from misusing military force from 1920 - 2000. This is an important issue that must be addressed moving forward.

Thinking about this some more, and the need to constantly call out Trump’s hate even though it’s endless. Some might say it’s no longer news. We have to keep calling it out, not as further evidence of his inhumanity, but as evidence of our own humanity. And to teach our children a different way.

President Trump, on the violent street protests in France, where 1,800 people have been arrested after fires and looting, says the country is burning because "immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country."

Thanks for the effective reporting @marisakabas.bsky.social. The extremists and paid provocateurs have been hiding in plain sight for a long time. What's been missing are candidates and their campaign staff willing to call them out, with facts and connections, for what they are.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

This is why an objective, independent media is critically important. I'll opine that almost everything going on in liberal democracies (or formerly liberal democracies) is a response to and consequence of 40-plus years of neoliberal economic and social policies that concentrated wealth and power.

Read the entire thread that @doctorow.pluralistic.net published (and the formatted version, too), but I'm pulling out this visualization of the distribution of accumulated assets in the United States because it's powerful and extremely well done. Neo-liberal policies are unjust and inequitable.

This has only been accelerated by America's precipitous slide into oligarchy, which has exhausted the savings *and* the credit-card limits *and* the home equity of the majority of Americans, who increasingly can't afford to buy anything: dreamagainusa.org

Reconstitution of our governmental institutions and processes in the years following the end of the Trump regime and the erosion and delegitimization of government institutions and processes will take experimentation, time, effort, and discernment on the effectiveness of the implemented changes.

Reconstruction after the Trump regime mean rebuilding institutions like the judiciary and law enforcement at all levels of government. The US Attorneys need to be at the top of the list, and properly reset and redirected to deliver justice *for all* directed by the rule of law.

The DOJ has never been perfect. There has always been plenty to criticize. But the DOJ today, after not even two years of Trump, is a rotten shell of what it once was; untrusted by sizeable portions of the federal judiciary, hollowed out at the core, and run without principle.
