OR Attorney General Rayfield has been amazingly successful fighting the Trump Regime. But it ain't cheap. Gov. Kotek's last 2 budgets included *big* increases for the AG's Office, making these lawsuits possible. Drazen would never budget for lawsuits against Trump's authoritarian overreach.

Doing a panel this morning about the decade since the Malheur occupation, and I just realized it was exactly 10 years ago today that the jury in the first trial, involving the Bundys, was given the case and started deliberations. I wrote this earlier this year: www.pdxmonthly.com/news-and-cit...

@agdanrayfield.bsky.social: How is Oregon regulating e-motos? Can you prevent deceptive sales of over-powered two wheelers? What can the DoJ do to reduce confusion between these and e-bikes. See 🧵for more info, and a policy statement from bike & ped professionals.

Ken McLeod@kenmcld.bsky.social

California, Delaware, and New York City are identified as places with consumer protection measures that should be emulated Every state and local jurisdiction would have a far easier job protecting consumers if NHTSA used its authority to regulate e-motos as motorcycles

My favorite graphics in "Transportation and the Shape of Cities" #8: A bike lane can be built with paint and plastic, made more durable with curbs and planters, or built into the infrastructure of a rebuilt street. All take the same space, but the cost and the feel of the street are quite different.

Peter Hartlaub@peterhartlaub.bsky.social

I wrote a bike story aimed at drivers — on why I think more bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure can be a win-win. Gift link 🎁 for anyone still on the fence about Sunset Dunes www.sfchronicle.com/totalsf/arti...

To understand how the Trump administration behaves and makes (and unmakes) policy, you have to understand that it comes from a constant battle between incompetence and evil. Their policies are usually a combination of both in different measures.

Riding bikes home from school yesterday we had a hard time crossing a busy arterial. She told me, “that street takes away my confidence.” It is hard to teach a child to not go when one person stops for you. It is safer to wait for a break in traffic, even if it irritates the person who stopped.

8600+ Oregonians took the Governor's survey on what they want to see in a future transportation package. What a surprise! People want to fix the damn roads, expand transit service and build safer streets. Oregonians are not clamoring for ODOT to spend billions on freeway expansions. #orleg #orpol

opb.orgHere’s how Oregonians want the state to address its transportation budget crisisGovernor workgroup gave Oregonians one month to respond to transportation survey.

Many thanks to @wyden.senate.gov for joining in support of this one!

We applaud @vanhollen.senate.gov and all 47 senators for their historic vote demanding accountability for violence against Palestinians in the West Bank - including U.S. citizens. Amid surging attacks from Israeli settlers and security forces, Congress must protect civilians + uphold human rights.

My lived experience is that Oregonians are more state-proud than Washingtonians, Illinoisians, or Ohioans, that Iowans are more state-proud than Oregonians, and that Minnesotans are more state-proud than Iowans More than that, I cannot say

When the 2050 Marin County Vision Network is complete, you will be able to ride a bike, with your kid or your mom, from Pt Richmond to Pt Reyes Station, or from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Sonoma County border, all on low-stress bikeways. Marin will be the most bikeable county in America.

The Hoopes family was kind enough to let me into their lives and home this summer, before their son Jacob began a 30-month federal prison sentence for his actions at an ICE protest last year. I hope you’ll check out his story, out now online and in the Mercury’s upcoming print issue.

Sometimes it seems like the world doesn't know quite what to make of Quakers—and the movies are no exception. For decades, Friends were seen "thee"-ing and "thou"-ing across the screen, our spiritual beliefs reduced to a rejection of violence the modern world finds unrealistic. But that's changing.

63 years ago, hundreds of thousands of Americans marched on Washington to demand equality, fair jobs and freedom. Today, the fight continues against those who want to turn back the progress we’ve made as a country. We must stand up for voting rights, equality and justice for all.

My idea to help w speeding: A city-sponsored “neighborhood pace car” program where volunteers get a placard/signage on car saying, “I’m going the speed limit. Are you?” Or just do it w city fleet vehicles. We just need to normalize going slow and folks will chill.
