We just gave $1,000,000 to Open Source maintainers at @sentry.io, up from $750K last year! 🎉️ And this month the @opensourcepledge.com turns 2. Its 37 member companies have now paid $8,421,535 to the people who build the software we all rely on. Read on to find out where the money went.

blog.sentry.ioWe just gave a million dollars to Open Source maintainersSentry raised its Open Source budget from $750,000 to $1,000,000 this year. Here's why, and how we split it among maintainers and foundations.

I am looking forward to this so much!

I cycled past @heriotwattuni.bsky.social today and again there is no safe way to cycle there. Women and girls are excluded from active travel. Note: I took the dark and off road and quiet canal path.

5. The best way of pushing a book to a kid is to say it isn't suitable. "You won't understand it." "It's rude." "It's far too challenging for someone your age." Then, just leave the book around somewhere they can reach it.

this is one of my all time favorite tweets and if you'll forgive me being a serious tennis nerd about it for a second, tennis is one of those sports where it's really difficult to overstate how many levels there are between you and the pros (mini thread)

xAI shipped Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0 yesterday. 82.9% on the AA speech-to-speech index, 0.70s to first audio, top agentic score on the board. The interesting part is at the bottom of the announcement, and it costs you money.

Thought for the day: It never ceases to amaze me how today's techbros' vision of the future they want defaults to fully automated leopard-face-chomping neo-feudalism rather than fully automated luxury gay space communism.

When I was a kid, my Gran bought a toaster. On the packaging, it said "With 8-bit microchip!" I've been using a clockwork toaster for the past 22 years with no complaints. Seriously, if AI doesn't improve your product, don't add AI to it.

That photo is of the correct model of toaster. I found it by searching for "8-bit microchip toaster." That's how messed up this branding was. Also, don't you love that it's "country style?" Both high-tech and low-tech branding at the same time.

To whoever at Coca-Cola who decided their FIFA sponsorship meant no espresso in the whole Vancouver Fanzone: Fuck you, and all of your descendants.

All I wanted was a breakfast coffee at 8am, and what I got was some lukewarm stuff from an urn.

I now have to put on reading glasses to play on my Nintendo Switch. This is not the future I was expecting.

The thing that isn't being reported is that the survey was written in such a biased way it was actually VERY DIFFICULT to object. If the survey had been well-written, the results would be even worse.

If you want a decent tram system, you have to take away some space from cars. And that's something Edinburgh council seems incredibly reluctant to do. (You also need money, but that's a separate problem)

Anyway ... maybe prioritise some transport networksvin a way that doesn't take away from green space used for active transport.

I'm conflicted in this whole thing because I LOVE public transport, and I want more of it. But the Roseburn Path is a gift. And if we lose it, we'll never get anything like it again.

Paris consistently racks as number one for attractiveness to tourists globally in the Euromonitor study (I’ll share a link in the the next post), but in volume terms it’s no slouch either - it’s in the top ten for international visitors too. It’s awesome to have such a visible city as this example.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.

A known problem of agentic coding tools is decision exhaustion – where the user is constantly hitting 'yes' to decisions, and gets sloppy. (There's a better term for this, but I forget)

It would be quite interesting to have an agent that periodically (on purpose!) tested the user by presenting awful code, or asking for permission to execute something like `rm -rf` to keep the user on their toes.

Airport scanners already do this by inserting imaginary guns into scans – why not do it with code too?
