New story with STP now free to read! It’s another weird one 👽

Seize The Press Magazine@seizethepress.bsky.social

Kay Vaindal is back in STP with An American Execution. A woman travels to witness the resurrection-execution of one of the 9/11 hijackers with the daughter of her abducted neighbour and her boyfriend who claims to be an emissary from another universe. Dark and wacky in pure Vaindal-esque fashion.

Table of contents announcement! Cursed Morsels: A Food Systems Horror Anthology is going to be a banger, y'all. The image below features Giuseppe Arcimboldo's painting "Summer." The anthology's cover art will be in the works soon!

Takashi Miike talking about VISITOR Q (2001). There’s a subsection of film fandom that really really needs to try and internalize this mode of creation/understanding.

I’ve never eaten at a Cheesecake Factory. Tried to once with my appalachian-Bronx grandma at the one in harborplace but it was some anime convention and she had dementia and was freaked out by all the costumed people she called sickly so we bailed out and went to pizzeria uno instead

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

Brazil was of two huge election results today—alongside the defeat of the nationalist, authoritarian leader of Serbia: "the slate of candidates selected by protesting students had won at least 135 seats in Serbia’s 250-member legislature" www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/w...

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

I haven’t slept a full night in three weeks ahead of the polls opening in Brazil today. I might be shouting into a void here, but if you can spare a few seconds to send good energy towards our elections today and for the largest country in South America to beat fascism, please do so. 🇧🇷

AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

I have a story in this! Like everything I write, it is a cozy feel good jaunt that celebrates our present age 😊

Cursed Morsels@cursedmorsels.bsky.social

Folks, in light of resurgent cozy horror discourse, I can promise you that our 2027 release, Cursed Morsels: A Food Systems Horror Anthology, is by far the bleakest thing we've published. I mean, it's doing other things too, but goddamn, is it bleak!

I was talking to my friend Mae today about how I wish more people cared about and read short stories. A great short story will take only twenty minutes to read but stick with you for twenty years. Wildly powerful artform! What's a short story that fits that description for y'all?

I think one major way you can miss seeing this as a man is all the work women around you are doing to navigate misogyny is invisible to you. There's a minefield that you only see when it blows up, and you wonder, how did that get there. "How did Bob turn into that."

The raw visceral hatred some men have for women, at least women who step out of line, is shocking. I know it sounds like some sorta "one of the good ones" ploy but I am genuinely taken aback when I see it because I think: I had a fairly normal socialisation as a man in the west, how did I miss this?

A man replied to this saying in earnest that women need to get organized and fight for our rights and men will follow. We did that. We do that. We mobilized the largest single day protest in global history on every continent and yet I have fewer rights than my mom did at my age.

I literally don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been raped, stalked, groped, harassed, or sexually violated in some way at some point in their life. If you choose to doubt and dox survivors, just know every woman in your life is disgusted by you.

Fellas, has this ever happened to you?!?

I would like to point out that the local people in Bolivia were already familiar with the new cat species, traditionally calling it "Tilcayo", a name honored by the scientists who carried it over into the formal scientific name Leopardus tilcayo.
