I made this account so I could follow people making games but it's mostly just mass layoffs.

Hey folks, I've just added Besmirch to my Steam Curator page, it's a rather fascinating horror Stardew style farming sim currently in early access that wears its heavy inspiration from Faith proudly, while adding a pinch of Darkwood for good measure. store.steampowered.com/app/3670630/...

I run most of my games at a deliberately low resolution and through filters that crush the colours/make them look like shit and everyone says they look good. Who is asking for this AI nonsense?

This is a great video! Very interesting and weird little game followed by some very apt criticism of its goals as an experiment.

Remember when Facebook killed like 4 different websites by lying about their video numbers. I think you can just look around. People don't post to thread..... threads. People don't screen caps of funny threads posts. Even if the numbers are semi accurate, it's not going to serve you.

So I guess either Bluesky becomes a nonprofit or we all start sharing our Threads handles on here…?

With the scaffolding of the games industry being removed, I really think stuff like Godot are the future. Even if you prefer stuff like Unreal, it relies on a way of doing business that is too fickle to sustain. I think we're all going to get more scrappy and used to open source stuff.

My overall opinions about what will happen to personal computing are very pessimistic, so I think it will be a case of making the most of a decline. Open source software is ultimately collaboration between like-minded people though, so I think that will hold out the longest.

Even less bothered about the next TES game than I was before. Any of the magic left over from Morrowind gets diluted every time but I suspect this will pour away the last of it.

Among the layoffs was character artist Christiane Meister — a 27-year veteran of Bethesda and (as far as I can tell) one of the longest tenured women in games, period. She worked on Argonians + Khajiit in TES3, horses in TES4 and TES5, Fallout creatures, and more. (cont'd)

I've really been interested in using Photos + Procedural tools to create diffuse textures quickly. I couldnt help myself when I saw @lucyfovz.bsky.social's bread dough and decided to see what I could do with it. I ended up with a Alien looking cavern texture set in roughly 40 mins.

For some reason my skeleton game gets the most exposure from freesound.org I left a comment on all the sounds I used with a link to the game and they get clicked more than any other place I share it Maybe it's just bots crawling over the dead internet though

There are so many modern horror games that are about having a normal job. Probably something for the smart folk to write about in there.

This is my most recent project, I've spent way too much time on it and it's not even a game. The premise is it's a simulation of a league of athletes that race against each other that can be left as an automated live stream to run forever. There's some other weird stuff going on too.

I really like the idea of simulating a bunch of stuff behind the scenes but the only way you can see or interact with it is these weird little races they do.

At the moment most of the basic functionality is there, they have randomly generated stats and can buy upgrades, move up and down the rankings etc. There's still a bunch of stuff to add but the main stuff that's missing is ways for viewers to interact with it.

My initial idea is to add some kind of gambling mechanism, either via Twitch or a game client. Then I'd like the betting to have subtle effects on the world with athlete popularity getting them better careers and stuff. I'd also like to add too much complexity to the world they're in.

"What are they supposed to do, not comply with the CC companies and get the whole thing shut down for everybody?" YES! I am once again demending that SFW creators stop treating erotic artists like acceptable losses, and maybe having some skin in the game will convince them to join the fight.

Kickstarter officially banning adult content now. Knew this was coming, but it still sucks to have yet another part of the internet that I've been explicitly evicted from. Digital gentrification is exhausting.
