I think people should listen to what the administration trying to bring back spectacle lynchings, race riots, and middle passage-esque deportation voyages are trying to tell you about themselves. bsky.app/profile/bren...

The news just since I left work: -A planned livestream of an execution by firing squad -Trump basically trying to incite a pogrom against Somalis Nothing mysterious or complicated about what's happening.

This. This is important. They’re hoping fear will hold us back because they don’t have the numbers. But it will make us stronger. It will bring people out.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

Downside: The US now has government goon squads, and deploys them to try to intimidate voters into voting the way the president wants. Upside: They don’t have nearly enough goons. Not even close. They’re hoping fear will make up for that big shortfall, but it won’t.

“An Award for Scholars Who Tell the Truth” Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu (inhale) uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccck (inhale) Yooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

tagerai.bsky.social@tagerai.bsky.social

lol how did I miss this I just got an email advertising a prize for 1 MILLION dollars to 5 ‘social scientists who tell controversial truths at great professional cost“. The head of the committee is Roland fryer, it’s got Vanderbilt report alums, and it’s bankrolled by Bill Ackman And NerI Oxman.

For sure. I attended their webinar on FOIAing for ed tech contracts this week and got just what I needed to get started at my own institution.

Honestly, I want to shout this every fucking day.

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:5-6

Bill Shea@billshea19.bsky.social

Mike Rogers should be hounded with this question, since he's opted to become another replacement-level MAGA stooge. Get him on record ASAP. He's running TV ads here in Michigan about how he "broke with his party" to support the auto bailouts. Will he split now with Trump over this?

@olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social THIS: formulating a principle of not being a fucking mark.

Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò@olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social

Philosophers often bring up the "principle of charity": a willingness to assume good faith in an interlocutor and treat them accordingly. It's good to do in many circumstances. But it is worth formulating a principle of not being a fucking mark. If not during the rise of fascism, then when? 12/

UMich's new policy replays previous efforts to do something other than standard grades. Alex Meiklejohn tried to do without them in his Experimental College at Wisc in the 1930s. 1/

Faculty at a range of schools who were part of the New Univ Conference in the late 1960s also advocated for de-grading. Though the latter were viewd as radicals rather than mere reformers, both AM and the NUC faculty understood that there is no inherent relation btw grades and learning.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

The founders, in the Treaty of Tripoli -- begun under Washington, signed by Adams, ratified by a Senate filled with other crafters of the Constitution -- said "the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion." Tom Emmer is a dumb-as-dirt bigot.

Tom Emmer: "The founders created a Christian-based nation"

It's happening 🚨 House GOP representatives are about to introduce a bill that would completely eliminate subsidized student loans. They are trying to make it impossible to go to college unless you can afford to pay for it upfront.

let this be a message to Americans who join the military. the GOP will campaign on your death and use their power to delete your existence from the history books once it becomes inconvenient.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

The Arlington National Cemetery Memorial apparently has deleted references and information on everyone interred there who wasn’t a white straight man from their database - attempting to sweep their existence under the rug. My thoughts on this obscenity cannot legally be shared on this platform.

Let’s put it in simple terms. Men and women who attacked our Capitol, injured over 140 police officers and attempted to overthrow the results of a presidential election are going to be paid by Trump’s lackeys for their services on J6 with our tax dollars.

Again this should inspire wall-to-wall media coverage for months. The crowning achievement of the Civil Rights Movement is dead. Black people just lost all of their remaining political power in the South. This is a monumental moment in American history that simply isn't being treated as such.

Ari Berman@ariberman.bsky.social

Breaking: Tennessee Republicans pass new 9-0 gerrymander after SCOTUS destruction of Voting Rights Act eliminating state’s only majority-Black district & last Democratic seat. Splits Memphis, which is 63% Black, into 3 districts to disenfranchise Black voters. Quite literally a return to Jim Crow

Many of you are asking how you can help me. My only ask is this: Spread the word about the threats to democracy and how we can fight back. Tell everyone to subscribe to Democracy Docket for free and share its content with everyone you know. Thanks. bit.ly/4qmEiFz

The cucking of JD Vance escalates to levels scientists had previously deemed imposible.

Christopher Hale@christopherjhale.bsky.social

BREAKING: The U.S. bishops’ Committee on Doctrine just issued a formal statement defending Pope Leo XIV's teaching authority on just war doctrine — less than twelve hours after JD Vance told a Turning Point USA crowd the pope should “be careful” talking theology. This is a serious escalation.

People have been shocked that an AI company is offering chats with an AI Jesus for $1.99/minute but it's important to remember and respect the fact that a core part of American evangelicalism is being financially defrauded by people who claim to speak for god

"To my knowledge, no department head, dean, or other administrator at Texas A&M has taken any meaningful action to defend academic freedom." this is part of the problem in academia

First Plato—now Dr. Peterson—out the door at Texas A&M! Who’s next? Here is Dr. Peterson’s letter of resignation, which he just shared with the faculty.

#MI7 #TomBarrett I just called my rep's offices. Straight to voicemail here in Lansing (fucking cowards). Staffer in DC could not answer this question: 'Does the congressperson support the commission of war crimes?" She said she hadn't had a chance to talk with #OneTermTom about it.
