no better way to depart from #ecprgc25 than 👀 my paper just published in @eupthejournal.bsky.social! I find localism in an unlikely place & show that people feel more represented when they live in incumbent MEPs' hometowns, using survey data from 🇷🇴🇭🇺🇮🇹🇧🇪 doi.org/10.1177/1465... #Polisky

21:30 is easily becoming my new favorite timestamp — Orbán conceded right around then in April, and tonight Vučić did the same, on the dot.

How should we track human decisions in the kind of data science project that Alex envisions, and how can we ensure LLMs implement our decisions faithfully? One idea would be "Data Analysis Decision Records" What do you think? I'd love any feedback on #DADR ! vincentarelbundock.github.io/dadr

Perhaps the future of data science coding will be a continuous conversation with coding agents who present us with a series of analytical and coding decisions. We decide, they implement. (And, if we take our work seriously, we then review their implementation.)

Ever wondered what attributes are relevant in your conjoint experiment? And what assumptions you need to estimate it? Asya and I got you covered. In a new working paper we propose the APNS: the probability that an attribute's level change is necessary and sufficient for the selection of a profile.

I’m pretty sure when the rest of the world said the US should switch to SI, they meant kilograms and meters, not this

📢 Free book alert! What happens to the gender gap in political ambition in local government—the “best case” for women? Men STILL report more ambition. Using 3 datasets, this book unpacks why & shows that 🚺 are also much more likely to have “local-only” ambition. Free download + author 🧵 below!

🧵 Just accepted @thejop.bsky.social, with @tswalve.bsky.social "What's in a name? Name recognition, place-based identities, and candidate success" Voters prefer local candidates. But how do they know who's local? Often simply from the name on the ballot👇 www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Everyone studies how populists deform the administrative state. But what happens after they lose? 🚨New paper out in JEPP @jeppjournal.bsky.social 🎉 Women are underrepresented in local politics, and the problem isn't only their election but retention. In a survey experiment with 500+ English councillors, we find that family-friendly council policies increase women's static ambition. 🧵

sure, June Ball parties are wild & graduations are moving, but for me it's always been the CEE pol behavior conf organized by @filipkostelka.bsky.social that marks the end of EUI spring term when familiar & new faces, grad school friends & emeriti show there's great research east of the Oder/Leitha

I had a student ask me what the "tail" of a distribution is. She kinda looked at me incredulously when I told her it was just the tapered ends of the distribution because it, naturally, looks almost entirely unlike an animal tail and animals don't usually have 2 tails. Honestly, fair critique.
