Replying to @cpsc.gov

Now, I know what you're thinking. In Over the Garden Wall, when that one pumpkin guy is carving a pumpkin with a knife, is that OK? Yes. That guy is already dead. He can do whatever he wants.

Sam Altman said people are just gonna have to die in order to implement AI. In the very same week, Anthropic claimed it’s a human rights violation to be mean to the computer. These people need to be held accountable. They think lines of code are a person with rights but living people are debris.

The Verge@theverge.com

Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”

lrp bonus also paralleling the absolute lack of guardrails basically just in the US - other countries went "this sure has potential to be dangerous" and more tightly controlled how it could be implemented and used

Great chance to post my all-time favorite headline

Nick Pettigrew@nick-pettigrew.bsky.social

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

When colonization came to call in the US, many folks wrote about america as a pristine Eden whose forest were filled with delights and bounty. This was because indigenous folk (Like mine) built up food forest. Things that were razed and destroyed as a part of racist violence. Colonization is ongoing

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

I was tempted to pirate HP, curiosity and all that. But @jessiegender.bsky.social is right - think of the amount of times HBO commented on GOT leaks and downloads, just as an example. They DO track these things, and even that drives interest. Let this show die. Trans people deserve better.

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

so I'm probably going to treat myself and get season tickets to the san jose pwhl team - are there enough people that would want to go to a game or two (or more) for about $40 a game in very close seats that I should get a second? (I'm fine eating a few games - I'm probably not going to 15 games)

the "no one has supported Pokemon more than us, distributing at fair market value instead of underpriced MSRP" is SENDING me, LIKE YOU'RE ACTUALLY HELPING ANYONE BUT YOURSELVES this is so funny oh my god

Russell Irving@rginteger.bsky.social

I'm not much of a Pokémon person, but my son is & trying to buy him cards at retail prices has been nigh on impossible the last couple of years, and I refuse to pay scalpers for anything. So it warms the cockles of my heart to see so many of them having a full meltdown about the recent set. Enjoy!!
