In Homa Bay, Kenya, a women led factory is making sanitary pads up to 60% cheaper, with packs from 50 shillings. It can produce 200 pads a minute, will donate pads to schools to help girls stay in class and aims to reach 430,000 women while growing from 17 workers to more than 200.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

What you fight, you feed. The right is very intentional about the vile they spread. They lie not to be believed but rather to be repeated. Congrats Brazil - may this and Serbia be a portent.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Some people aren't going to like this, but: A functioning democracy doesn't have to accept the results of an election tainted, defrauded, and delegitimized by such obvious corruption. If necessary, clear out the conspirators and do the election again.

Hearing report after report. Bolsonaro’s allies are doing everything they can to suppress the vote. It’s the engine of fascism in action.

"[Insert name here] doesn't deserve a redemption arc." Does anyone at the beginning of that arc? Isn't redemption about making amenda and restitution for past wrongs? Isn't it the rest of us who deserve the villain do the work of redeeming themselves by repairing the damage they've done?
