"The war" (39-45), wouldn't that make them 90+yrs old? If they *fought for Britain? So they'd be *how old ? 117 if they were 20 in '39? Daily Heil making shit up again?

My grandad fought in the war and he loved nothing better than beating the shit out of racists. He kept a tally of how many he put in hospital

If an amendment to your constitution results in children routinely being shot in school then it's time to amend it again.

One of the common arguments from so called "gender criticals", transphobes, is "what rights are trans people losing". The answer is so many. Just today we have seen in practice that trans people are being excluded from healthcare., to add to public spaces, education etc. It all costs lives.

Dan Sohege@danielsohege.bsky.social

The EHRC chair either does not understand the principle of rights, or has decided to gaslight trans individuals while stripping those rights. The EHCR code undermines, and, arguably in several ways, outright violates rights for trans individuals, including Articles 8, 11, and 14 of the ECHR. 1/

#Trans people - what can we do to help? I'm writing to my MP but god knows I've done that a million times before and though I do believe she tries, it doesn't change anything. I'll keep at it. What else? How can we (me/any other cis allies) support you?

I remember saying more than five years ago that it was obviously insane and potentially disastrous to start treating any Palestinian flags and symbols as automatically terrifying racism, and I see the decision was to just insist upon it constantly and fuck the consequences.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

141,000 people have so far been evacuated from the Gironde and Landes regions which lie close to Bordeaux. We’re waiting for our train to take us out of Bordeaux.

Holiday in the climate emergency. No that’s not AI or edited, just a snapshot I just took with my phone on Lacanau beach in France. What future will this boy grow up in? It is in our hands, but time is running out.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote: https://propub.li/4veRIqA

AOC: This is an inhaler pump. Can you guess what the great innovation was that made it worth preventing this from going generic? It’s this little plastic piece right here. That was a major part of the new patent they filed to extend exclusivity and prevent this life-saving drug from going generic.

Discussed this with friends recently. Two of them have spouses who claim to have never read a book in their lives. The families have bookcases in every room except the bathroom. Everyone reads, and talks about reading, except the ones who don't read. Self-imposed isolation.

If you want to follow Farage and leave the ECHR, which of these rights do you want to give up for yourself and your family? Just asking as most of you seem to think this will only affect foreigners..

I have to say, listening to the Today programme dedicate an entire (context free) section about whether migrants are more likely to be convicted criminals *the morning after* hundreds of non-migrants of my own ethnicity committed a pogrom is blood boiling.

If a person can't fit between the arm rests, and there's room on the flight, that person gets a free extra seat. Ouf.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Southwest Airlines, which received backlash from the plus-size community earlier this year when it tightened its extra-seat policy, has loosened restrictions on securing a second adjacent seat. The amended rule goes into effect immediately.

80 Years after #WO2, the "Windermere children" have received a memorial garden in the UK. It commemorates the time spent in the Lake District by 300 young Holocaust survivors. Would you like to know their story? Listen to the EHRI #podcast "A Place in Paradise". www.ehri-project.eu/podcast-epis...

People forget/have forgotten how many people were desperately scrambling to get out in the 1930s. Same attitudes towards children, too. The Windermere children weren't welcome with open arms by everyone, either. Am guessing UK archives hold a fair bit. Mass Observation & CEPR may know?.

Joseph Howley@illdottore.bsky.social

In 2017 I had cause to read the papers of the Harvard Classics Department from the 1930s and found this distinct stratum of correspondence: European profs writing frantically to American depts seeking to secure positions for Jewish colleagues. I wonder how many such archives hold this history.

I've just watched that programme again. Sadly there remain too many people who think that refugees shouldn't be welcomed here.
