"on an unrelated note" 🙅‍♀️ all phenomena are inextricably interdependent

society if rust had used the terms shared and exclusive from the beginning

i really dislike this purity argument, where having some kinds of restricted mutation preserving strong guarantees is the same as “doing almost nothing to restrict normal mutability”

istg I’m on the way to developing OCD, it’s crazy. I hope not but it seems increasingly plausible to me. The cope is that I’m under a lot of stress rn and from November onwards that should renormalise, which I’d like to imagine will halt it

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

lots of jokes today about a private key of "4", for some reason but I'm sure that's not anything that actually happened in real life [touching earpiece] I'm just now being informed—

Wait I'm like 1% Māori from a genetic standpoint, which I have zero connection to in any real sense, do not think about, and have suffered no discrimination for. Clearly I'm not who they're talking about

I know that "white gay couples look like each other" is a stereotype but honest to god looking at the pictures of a high school friend with his boyfriend and honest to god they look so similar it's insane

hello i am db cooper the fbi is using the rust programming language to triangulate my position. i've filled their server with copies of "A Tour of C++" by Bjarne Stroustrop. that should keep them busy while i make my daring escape!!

I am like 30% conscious and I was not this conscious even six months ago. I truly can not remember experiencing thought from back then. I know I must have because all humans do, but it seems hard to believe when there’s no evidence

my dad talks about autistic people as though they are group that doesn’t include either of us like he came into my room to tell me that when i should have thrown about recyclable bottles when he asked me to throw out the cans, and then he said he’d need to be more literal next time. And like yes.

That would help. And like, my mum thinks he’s autistic and I’m inclined to a agree, he really does seem to fit a certain archetype of autistic middle aged man. he definitely and unambiguously engages in some amount of behaviour that is characteristic of autism. and he just can‘t see it in either

i'm sick of identity politics (also associativity politics)

I do find it fascinating how closely the way I see people talk about not eating lines up with the way I see people talk about like, drug use I don't think the people I've noticed do this make the comparison explicitly, but I suppose that harmful addictive activities lead to convergent thought

it is crazy how closely how many hours I need to work to pay for my tuition next year is tied to how much my parents are willing to cover. this is kind of obvious, but. I go from needing to work 200 additional hours of work on top of my research technically-not-a job to like, already having done

The way that too / to interact with stress has got to be one of the most fascinating things in (english) linguistics. When I was ~8 our teacher said that if we were having difficulty distinguishing we could try and put unstressed "to" in the sentence out loud and see if it sounded right. Crazy cool

Women named Barbara seem to be responsible for a lot of very cool stuff (perhaps I’m biased by Barbara McClintock being an idol of mine in high school but). Clearly there is an optimal name for anyone that wants to name a girl for STEM success (themselves or a child of theirs)

i've been trying to also allocate some time to learn some computing history over the last few months and goddamn Liskov is a badass
