Hey Toronto @sundance.bikesky.social has something you should consider for dealing with the bike lane nonsense.
Plans available on Instructables or you can buy on Etsy.
Fire fighters are saying adding density to the places where land is cheap/zoning is more lax (aka the outskirts of the suburbs), is super bad for fire services.
Residents are invited to learn more about the proposed redevelopment of the St. Mary’s Boat Club and provide feedback to help inform future planning and design of the facility. More details on an upcoming open house: buff.ly/qvHTP6L
Traffic operations change: Intersection of Gottingen, Brunswick and Duke streets. Effective Tuesday, Nov. 3, a new left-turn restriction from southbound Gottingen to Brunswick Street will help reduce delays, improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety. More details: buff.ly/D6KICYQ
Traffic operations change: Intersection of Oxford Street and Jubilee Road. Effective Tuesday, Nov. 3, a new afternoon peak-period left-turn restriction from Jubilee Road to Oxford Street will help reduce delays, improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety. More details: buff.ly/i87Gdi2
Operations continue at the Hfx. Grain Elevator, with 56 HRFE firefighters and 20 apparatus on scene supporting this complex response. Crews are working to contain the fire and protect the nearby vessel while navigating the challenges presented by the infrastructure and elevated firefighting.
Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is responding to a structure fire at the grain elevator located at 730 Marginal Road in Halifax. No injuries have been reported at this time. Please avoid the area and allow first responders space to carry out their work.
Complex industrial firefighting at Hfx Grain Elevator. The fire is located about 135 feet above ground within the facility’s dust management system, presenting significant access and tactical considerations. Crew are operating deliberately and aggressively, supported by aerial and drone operations.

'A violent storm hit Split, Croatia, this evening. Solin recorded 60mm of rain in one hour, roads flooded up to car headlights and firefighters pumped water from car parks in Podstrana.'

I joined The Monthly Cycle for their ally ride this evening. It was a nice ride through Point Pleasant Park, the south end and over Citadel Hill.

Internal docs show MTO staff warned against Ford government’s bike lane removal: “No empirical evidence that ties bike lanes as the sole source of congestion, nor is there data that shows removing bike lanes help with better traffic flow” www.thestar.com/news/gta/dou...#onpoli#bikeTO#TOpoli
The Halifax and Nova Scotia subreddits are suddenly awash with pro-data centre posts that all seem to be written by AI.
I guess that’s why govt and corps are so eager to build these things. Propaganda. Swaying opinions. Manufacturing consent.
This is NOT normal. I cannot think of anything like it in the 40 years I reported. (Including 30 covering NS politics). No Nova Scotia should be ok with this.
Update: Both Joan Baxter and Jennifer Henderson were escorted out of the EverWind press conference by security. Both are older women who present no physical threat to anyone. Both behave as reporters do. But we (the Halifax Examiner) write critically about EverWind.
Conversation we had with Sheldon about the Traffic Safety Act and Regulations, effective this Monday.
Does anyone even know what the new laws and requirements are?

Aly Van Wyck-Smart: ‘Her meteoric rise to fame came quickly when she won a Silver medal at the 2019 Para World Swimming Championships in the S2-100m backstroke & a bronze 50m. With those results she quickly moved the target from Paris 2024 to Tokyo 2020.’

The Toronto Police arrested Aly Van Wyck-Smart, a Paralympian with cerebral palsy who was protecting part of the bike lane from removal.
On the bright side, the construction workers put the bollards back and said we'd won for the day.

Great coverage of this week's Bloor bike lane removal resistance by @desmondcole.bsky.social and the broader far-right playbook. The "war on fossil capital" framing is good and one that can apply to those walking, biking, and taking transit alike. #BikeTO#WalkTO#TTC#TOpoli#ONpoli#VisionZero
Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes isn’t about traffic—it’s part of a global right-wing backlash to vilify urban residents and defend fossil fuel interests.

It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve.
Premiers should not have that power, period.
"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…”
One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

Paris has been praised in recent years for their visionary, progressive city-building, but they don’t get enough credit for just being really pragmatic!
Everything they’ve been doing is common sense.
They’re moving a lot more people with less space while cleaning the air and cooling the city.
In today's Morning File, a story by Jennifer Henderson on Nova Scotia students' test scores.
Plus, some of what happened at Halifax regional council Tuesday.
I wrote about getting more vehicles off our streets.
