Do you need to know what you think before you start writing? Not necessarily, argues historian Lynn Hunt. In a 2010 #AHAPerspectives essay, Hunt explores how the act of writing itself generates new ideas and why getting words on the page is essential to the thinking process.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

This whole post is great — including the reminder that “Direct Instruction” is not synonymous with “direct instruction” — but this part is so essential to interpreting educational research that it’s irresponsible not to acknowledge it when discussing implications (ie context matters!!!):

When the EduCogSci revolution began in the UK, there was a push against pedagogical centralisation: subject specific pedagogies were lauded. This required pedagogical decentralisation. The EduCogSci revolution, however, began eating itself when it once again wanted to centralise pedagogy.
