As someone who almost exclusively takes a window seat, the fact that I am always in the last boarding group never ceases to confound me.

This is the one night every year when my love of Berlin turns to pure fear. I cancelled my plans tonight after nearly being hit with explosives. Now I’m sitting alone watching sparks fly off my front windows while the building rattles, hearing constant explosions, screaming, and sirens.

one of the most deeply infuriating aspects of american politics is close to half of americans would love if 20% of the country starved to death

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."

Sometimes when I’m using software, I just wish I could interview people in the company to figure out what decisions led to it being broken or hard to use. It always gets blamed on “the devs” but that is almost never the real story.

Usually it’s something like an exec meddled, or product management decided that bug fixes aren’t a priority, a board member hired their friend’s kid to do design, or engineering leadership is too inexperienced. Who you hire at every level in every department contributes to the end product.

Google developer #1: "That's it. Our search engine is simple, efficient, and reliable. It's perfect. We're done." Google developer #2, presumably: "But wouldn't it be *more* perfect if the first search result was always a robot who mansplained your search results to you incorrectly?"

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people: 1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money 3) We won’t need a lot of troops 4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq 5) We’ll find WMDs 6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators 7) It will be easy 8) It won’t take long All lies.

#Berliners, what’s going on with the transit system lately? Between late and cancelled trains, stop closures, and too many people trying to cram into the doorways* of too many trains, trips that used to take 30 min are not pushing an hour or more. *still no one moves to the middle

Lives are in danger, people are dying and/or being physically or virtually disappeared, imprisoned, deported, and we don't really know what else. For many people affected by the above, "just wait until after the next elections and we can try to impeach him" sounds rather callous.

Remember: If you're not outraged you aren't paying attention. Or you're taking a well-earned break for your mental health and a nap. You can be both outraged and sleepy. In fact, outrage makes you sleepy faster.

You are up to date.
