When we hear about "the rich" & how they fuck up the world: it's not just Bezos & Musk, it's most of us in the rich world. "Wealthy nations are somewhat insulated from the climate crisis because they are able to afford higher food prices, robust houses, emergency evacuation, healthcare & security."

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

The 2026 UNEP Emissions Gap Report is out: The Point of Return. 🌍🌡️🔥 It's sobering but actionable. Decades of inadequate climate action have closed off opportunities to limit warming, but ambitious action today can still prevent much greater harm. A thread of some of the highlights 🧵

Honoured to have contributed to the 2026 State of the Climate report. Things look grim, surely, and yet we have the responsibility to inform the public and keep strong to unmask climate denialists and their associated cronies in governments, media, corporations, etc.

🌍 “This is no longer a warning for the future; it is a diagnosis of the present.” Our 2026 State of the Climate report finds 7 of 16 planetary vital signs at record extremes. The planetary emergency is already here. doi.org/10.1093/bios...

I know people want to jump on opportunities for scholarships/fellowships but if you are looking for a host/supervisor don't write 2 days before the deadline to someone you have never met to ask if they will support you. Better wait a year & build the relationship with the right mentor/supervisor.

The meeting was ‘suspended’ meaning it can meet again and perhaps resolve this. Immediately this means continued confusion for authors about the schedule of writing and expert and government review. And perhaps more significantly it may mean that the next author meetings cannot be held in person.

The new Climate Action Tracker update on Canada is alarming. What has shocked me the most and may come as a big surprise to many is the way in which Mark Carney has steadily dismantled Canada‘s Climate policies to the point where he’s heading towards Trump level rollbacks. lnkd.in/p/d2RVBBae

lnkd.inCanada | Bill HareDonald Trump is setting an appalling benchmark for climate failure rolling back US Climate action and supporting fossil fuels. Mark Carney should be putting as much distance as possible between Cana...
Climate Action Tracker @climateactiontracker.org

Climate Action Tracker has just published what it views as two extremely disappointing country analyses: the US (Critically insufficient), and Canada (Highly insufficient), as both governments roll back climate policies. Read our analyses here: climateactiontracker.org/press/releas...

Tell me your thoughts on this phrase (and any variation of it): 'The authors used [LLM] to assist with language editing, grammar checking, and drafting support during preparation of this manuscript.' Does this not mean that the text was potentially written by an LLM?

More from the Adaptation conference: Pauline Lavaud, Director of Climate and Ecological Transition, City of Paris, mentioned one of the most important ingredients in adaptation to extreme heat: solidarity. So true. And rarely discussed at the global policy level.

On my way to Paris now for the conference 'How - and how far - can we still adapt?' I have to admit I am starting to become pessimistic about adaptation opportunities.
