I am old enough to remember when social psychologists were telling us overt racism had disappeared and we needed magical tools to measure our unconscious racism. How quaint

I am old enough to remember when politicians felt the need to hide behind euphemism and obfuscation. As frustrating as these obfuscations were I hope it is becoming clear to all that they were an advance, historically speaking

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

How is everyone else respecting indigenous people's day today? I know many of you will use it to catch up with work & family away from the office, and that's wonderful. As a Guatemalan-American of Mam heritage, here are indigenous projects I admire. Maybe take a minute today to learn & donate?

It feels like this whole midterm elections cycle is a game of Mad Libs. What do you mean Florida Republicans allegedly stole millions of health insurance money from poor children to bankroll a campaign that blocked a marijuana legalization referendum www.cbsnews.com/miami/news/g...

National Democrats are pumping millions into the race for Florida attorney general, a powerful post Democrats haven't won in the entire 21st century. But the political climate and an ongoing scandal gives Republican James Uthmeier (pictured) reason to worry about Jose Javier Rodriguez.

I’m sorry, but we are NOT “all cam girls in the surveillance state.” I’m so sick of hearing it. Stop trying to be cute by centering yourself in conversations about a distinct, stigmatized experience that you have never been through. Stop turning sex workers into symbols. We are real people.

Seeing as the 2026 WHO guidance assumes we can be certain Ebola is not and cannot become airborne and also says more research is needed to establish whether Ebola is airborne, this would be a really good time to figure out how we can get aerosol-appropriate PPE to healthcare workers in Africa ASAP.

There are new and specific numbers in this story, so it’s worth reading. I have no illusions that NYT would ever offer me a job, nor do I want one. But they may want to consider that their unwritten policy of not crediting previous reporting (the way everyone else in journalism does!) may be costing them the hiring of great journalists they actually do want.
