Received a truly vile, transphobic series of pro-Tom Tiffany texts today in Wisconsin from something called the American Principles Project. Disgusting stuff. I've already voted for David Crowley, those assholes can fuck right off.

Still covering Elon Musk as a business mogul and not foregrounding his murderous white nationalist politics is like doing a piece on only the clown career of John Wayne Gacy.

I want to create a reboot of Scooby Doo, where at the end of the episode the ghost or the mummy or the space alien turns out to just be Elon Musk doing fraud. It's Elon Musk every time. Week after week, the episode ending just turns out to be Elon Musk committing fraud.

Reminds me of my 5-year-old arguing with a docent at the Maryland Science Center about the size of Argentinosaurus versus Giganotosaurus. I think the docent was correct, but the boy wouldn't given an inch.

Unrelated but I think my origin story as a person is arguing with a park ranger at Gettysburg when I was 8 (I was right, but I can’t imagine how fucking annoying I was)

is there any greater betral than leaving your phone/device/computer plugged in all night, only to discover something in the chain failed and you wake up with no power?

Seems to me that's just a fancy way of saying, "If you want to talk to the Senator, it's going to cost you." It may be "normal practice", but it's also clearly corrupt. I guess that doesn't mean it's illegal per se, but it should be. Money in politics is corrosive.

14/ Lindsey Graham’s team said that requiring a fundraising minimum for a dinner was normal practice, and that “any allegations of quid-pro-quo behavior or wrongdoing by the late Senator Lindsey Graham or his staff are simply false.”

if you were wondering whether Alito's book is an embarrassing crock of shit, I can now officially answer your question with a resounding yes ballsandstrikes.org/legal-cultur...

Man, I don't know. I've watched "There Will Be Blood" at least three times, and I feel real dumb because I don't understand why it's so revered. I'm not trying to say it's a bad movie, actually, or anything, just that I don't get it.

There are already too many teams in the College Football Playoff. Expanding from 12 to 24 will probably make a lot of people a lot of money, but football isn't basketball and we shouldn't pretend like it is.

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

"Below" on Netflix is ridiculous. It's as if the writers played too much "Dredge" and listened to too many sea shanties and maybe read too many Stephen King short stories. I love it.

Alberta is the Louisiana of Canada...

Dr Dan Shugar 🇨🇦@watershedlab.bsky.social

Alberta separatists are infuriating. A retired petroleum engineer (surprise, surprise) says he "hasn't looked closely at the practicalities of separation" but is still voting to separate. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Some of you might say, "Wait! Isn't Louisiana a poor state?" Yes, but only because generations of its political leaders have sold its natural resources to plutocrats for pennies on the dollar. It was all downhill after they assassinated Huey Long.

So, Hilton, you made me work through a phone tree with your stupid AI bot and then you didn't transfer any of that information to the customer service agent, so we had to start over from scratch? 0/5, complete slop, I should bill you for my time.

I think scientists have a responsibility to not have press releases issued for random papers. Most research isn't meant or ready for general audiences. We should give science enough time to accumulate evidence before we make our problems the society's problems.

I wonder if university athletic directors are ever going to insist that these absurd coaches' salaries become more performance-based. (The answer is no, they never will, who cares, is not their money.)

I saw this post when I came over here to comment that I've been asked to provide updated letters of support for grant applications because "AI" is no longer acceptable to the raging idiots running our government.
