The Carney government didn’t run on this; there’s no mandate. We need a snap election.

I keep being told that 'you cannot put the genie back in the bottle' but I am pretty sure you can put the genie back in the bottle as that is where the genie lives most of the time.

Completely uninformed guess for BC election - relatively close match between Cons and NDP in popular vote, but a big green turnout, maybe 12%+ resulting in: 63 Conservative 2 Green 28 NDP

One lesson I’m sure no one will learn is that if you continually lurch rightward, eventually voters will just elect the pros.

Remember when we wanted Anjali Appadurai to lead the NDP + party brass said heck no & installed Eby and that alone was the first dire warning. Anyway. Yeah. me too. This was Eby’s election to lose & provincial NDP across the country are that unreliable oil guzzling ex you shouldn’t trust.

This election disaster might eventually get us proportional representation. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of pain and suffering and death that will happen first if there’s a right wing majority. This was a long time coming with the cynical politics at the heart of the BCNDP. Don’t blame Greens.

I remember coming home from UBC after trying Seigel’s bagels and asking my mum to pick some bagels up when she got groceries. What she returned with were basically sesame hamburger buns with a hole in the middle. Absolutely terrible.

I work at a university so I could easily name half a dozen scientists, except they were other parents when my kids were in daycare and I’m not great with names so it would be “Julie’s mom, she works in organic chemistry, Mackenzie’s dad, I think he’s in molecular genetics or something?”

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

Every year, Research!America does a poll that asks, "Can you name a living scientist?" In January 2026, 76% of respondents said "no." Of those who said "yes," 5% named a scientist who was, in fact, dead. www.researchamerica.org/blog/can-you...

Less than a year after rejecting an all-party recommendation for an electoral reform citizen's assembly, David Eby is begging BC Greens to bail out the NDP, while keeping electoral reform off the table. See our write-up on this political cynicism: www.fairvote.ca/19/10/2026/d...

fairvote.caDavid Eby's last minute plea not to vote Green shows the voting system is broken. He could commit to fixing it.It’s not too late for David Eby and the BC NDP to commit to act on the recommendations of BC’s all-party committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform.

That is some seriously negative ROI.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

Can we not just solve the energy crisis by hooking this man up to the grid somehow? Maybe a big hamster wheel?

I published my first story in 1988, when I was 17 years old. Today, at 55, I've published more than 30 books, with three more coming in the next year or so. In the intervening years, I've spent a lot of time thinking and talking about publishing.

1994 me would probably have picked Pavement/GBV, Sebadoh, and Dinosaur Jr./Kyuss Time travelling middle-aged me would probably pick Pavement/GBV, JAMC/Mazzy Star and then Superchunk/Wedding Present What a time to be alive. I should have gone out more.

The way you used to be able to walk across the Atlantic on cod, you used to be able to walk across North America on rock shows. My picks: Superchunk/Wedding Present, JAMC/Mazzy Star & then throw a dart.

Although in those days I was freelancing in theatre and corporate events so was mostly working evenings and nights. Hard to catch a rock gig when you’re running follow spot for a CEO riding onstage on his Harley.

In 2023 we did a quick rendering sketch for council motion by @christineboyle.bsky.social @onecityvan.bsky.social aiming to unlock new housing options in Shaughnessy... it didn't pass at the time, but here's the 2026 version to keep the dream alive.

They should do this on day one so people have time to see the benefits before the next election.

Good luck and congratulations to all of the new and returning councilors, and to Mayor Fry. Now, this council has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever and to legalize apartment buildings all along Point Grey Road and in Shaughnessy.
