Regardless of the failings of present LLMs, I find myself increasingly thinking about the proverbial earpiece that offers perfect personal advice and how people use it first on only a few things but increasingly on everything until their brains shrivel away into nothing but relays for the earpiece.

i can never tell if these people know they are creating a corrupt system of influence peddling or they really are unable to think a single step ahead to the obvious outcome of their ideas

Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

Theirs is a movement of terror and suicidal despair, projection and self-delusion, and they can only lose since even winning for them is a living death. But our victories will not simply be experiential and affective, we are going to destroy their world and return this planet to itself in liberation

“One more lane bro” doesn’t work. NITA is the answer — but only if we dare to make clear commitments to transform Metra into regional rail, build a network of Bus Rapid Transit lines, increase frequency across the board, and make build-ready plans for new L lines. Oh, and #BuildTheTunnel.

A Sun-Times/WBEZ investigation confirms one driver's lament that it was "the worst traffic I've ever had to deal with." Worse yet, epic delays persist — a year after a three-year construction project ended and Gov. JB Pritzker promised “faster commutes.”

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

A thing I think is true: there has always been child sexual assault but various facts about social norms meant that well into the early 21st century it was considered shameful to mention it or bring it up. However, this very silence led to different interpretations of what the status quo ante was...

in the minds of many, the only acceptable protests are ones that they don't have to ever know about...and they like to pretend that the protests of the past that they do know about magically would not have intruded on their precious minds back then

yeah man, we want less billionaires

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.
