Equal parts fascinated and horrified by a cougar spotted on our home video cameras the past couple days. Our indoor cat Bagley used up one of her nine lives escaping on Saturday, and somehow missed it walking by.

the existence of alt text suggests the existence of goth text, jock text, nerd text, prep text, and normie text.

I strongly encourage everyone interested in web accessibility to read through the docs. It's so rare to see components with this much thought and actual testing put into them!

If you had a ticket to Grace Hopper and have not cancelled your plans to go to San Francisco, go to @github.com's LinkedIn right now if you'd like to attend GitHub Universe for free ❤️

Give me your best family friendly heckles to roast someone who insists on walking dangerous dogs around your neighborhood, when past bites and lawsuits haven’t deterred them. I want to get into this guy’s head like a mild horror movie

I’ve been working for months on a course overhaul, primarily at night… not going to finish it before this 2nd baby comes but I’ll keep on it. I’m proud of the updates so far! There’s even a mini design system in the workshop materials now 🥰

Seeing numerous verbal offers for tech jobs getting rescinded days later, when there’s no budget to actually hire. Y’all need to quit doing that to job seekers. It’s atrocious!

Great news outlasting yesterday’s outage. #a11y

Well, GitHub is down again (day that ends in y), but when it is back up: New Repositories now have a new default Issue label for "Accessibility". This update addresses a longstanding gap and helps to normalize accessibility as a primary consideration.

I made an app! What Can't I Press helps you discover what keyboard shortcuts are already claimed by running apps, with a focus on screen readers. This helps prevent you from overriding something someone might rely on to get what they want or need. #a11y github.com/ericwbailey/...

The fact that we almost did not get this movie about a little guy taking on a corporation focused only on profit because the studio decided to axe it for short term profit is frankly too much for me right now.

Final trailer for ‘COYOTE VS. ACME’ has been released. In theaters August 28. #CoyoteVsAcme

Y’know normally I’d object given it’s still July. But I will get to evict the new person wiggling in my abdomen in September so it’s sounding pretty good.

Steve Jobs predicted cities would be designed around this device, which was "as big a deal as the PC." Jeff Bezos called it "one of the most famous and anticipated product introductions of all time." don't let our tech lords fool you into believing they can predict the future.

Been seeing a trend of this, like prefers-reduced-motion was never a thing. You can still make safe and accessible websites, you know

rem / Remy Sharp @remysharp.com

Stumbled on a web site (a conference) and it was really "let's fade and animate everything in", so I turned on `prefers- reduced-motion: reduce` and you know what happened? Dick all. Animations remained strong 🍳🤦

At least we can laugh at the wasteful buffoonery in this reflecting algae pond situation. The internet is really unbeatable at times like these

Trump's DOJ released a dubious legal memo this morning that signals the Trump admin wants to force more people into psychiatric institutions via bad faith and incorrect interpretations of ADA, Section 504, and Olmstead. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Making kid birthday invitations is a little easier knowing my way around photoshop and illustrator. Glad Adobe hasn’t killed off every tool I know by heart in those apps! Still got it 💪

Just saw that Murray Sargent was the recipient of the Microsoft Accessibility Lifetime Achievement Award, for his extraordinary contributions to accessibility at Microsoft. Nice post, congratulations to him - we all owe him tbh. techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microso...

Biking around Seattle felt so great this week. I am tempted to do a gravel ride in July that I’ve done the past 2 years…but I’ll be 31 weeks pregnant. That’s probably too much 😂

Accessible presentation tip: read text aloud that appears on screen so people can follow along. Even auto-generated vocalization would be helpful! It can enhance an already great talk so much.
