ladies, is your programming - a field dominated by rich white men - driven by fashion trends - practiced as a demonstration of status - funded by vanity projects for failsons - filled with queers trying and failing to break even that's art, sorry

Nyek London@stupidhoroscope.bsky.social

I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

Was really confused as to why some properly labelled radio inputs were being announced as 'table', but I discovered 'display: inline-table;' not only exists, but it gives table semantics. Fascinating!

I have been meaning to write about this for a month or so now but it breaks my heart. AI has infected every hobby. Everything is noise. It's hurting existing communities and trudging through the slop is exhausting.

Related to my last repost covering Lola Odelola’s ACD effort, I’ve demonstrated that Baseline doesn’t consider accessibility (declared out of scope), which is part of why this effort is so important: adrianroselli.com/2023/12/base... Google funds Baseline but we have to fund ACD. How appropriate.

adrianroselli.comBaseline Does Not Really Cover Baseline SupportYeah, that’s not exactly a helpful title. The relatively new Web Platform Baseline offering does not track browser support for accessibility features built into the web platform. If you need to unders...

I strongly encourage everyone interested in web accessibility to read through the docs. It's so rare to see components with this much thought and actual testing put into them!

it's a new season for technology & for technologists, and our labor and its impact to the world are both more greater and more dangerous than ever. how do we make sense of work in an industry many of us no longer recognize?

In 2019 I got to meet some of my heroes in web dev at a conference, all women with big social presence. Not even a few years later, none of them have any public profile and a few have left the industry entirely. I'm the only one left from that small group. 🥲

WIRED@wired.com

WIRED asked 634 women what they really think about working in tech. They told us about harassment, bias, unequal treatment, and the everyday indignities that still shape life in the industry. 🔗 www.wired.com/story/women-...

Just learned that there is a conspiracy theory that Rupaul made the 'Stop that Train' movie to manipulate search results from the time Rupaul mistook a 'trains' flag for the trans flag and I fully believe it 100%

This whole situation just makes me so sad. There are so few publications left that are reliably producing genuine, non-slop web content. I think I can count them on one hand. Contrast this to the smörgåsbord on offer in, say, 2015. Tragic. Lets be loud about this and keep CSS-Tricks kicking!

Vale@vale.rocks

@css-tricks.bsky.social is once again stuck in an arbitrary suspension at the hands of DigitalOcean's radio silence. It is devastating to see such a brilliant publication treated so very poorly. The current situation: vale.rocks/micros/20260...

In 1999, we surfed the Web. Now we comb through it like a fantasy hero. Which posts are treasure, and which are deadly Mimics? What's real, and what's an impersonator trying to steal my attention? Worse: reading all this bland AI monoculture text leads to us thinking bland AI monoculture thoughts.

The 8hr course remains just $25 with the coupon, or you can pay whatever you want—even $0—by emailing me. In between jobs? In school? Whatever, I don’t need a reason. Hit that contact form and learn a bit about web components. 👊

I have tricked you all! For the last x years I have been on this platform, I have been LARPing as a normal human being, but with the advent of a Fire Emblem game coming out that might be actually good again* you will see my full degenerate self emerge. I have taken time off. I'm so ready.

I was just a tiny bit late to checking out the HK Lesbian and Gay Film Festival program this year and a bunch of things are already sold out!! what happened to the stereotype of being late HAHA

I was installing fresh installs of Cachyos and Windows yesterday and the experience was night and day. The windows installer took four times as long, wasn't scaled correctly to my monitor, and didn't work with my peripherals so I had to dig around for a mouse.

It's a genuine shame the accessibility of Linux as a whole is so poor because I think screen reader users would really benefit from the level of configurability and choice in Linux. I would love to ditch Windows forever but I need to do my screen reader testing somehow.

It's Saturday so let me do all these driver updates I have been neglecting! Hmmm, I should open up this graphically intensive game to make sure everything is still working -three hours later- what the hell happened where did the time go

Today I'm watering my calethea for the first time since getting it. I'm currently dechlorinating some water and regretting my life choices but hoping it's worth it because look this is the most beautiful plant I have seen in my entire life

I'm helping a former client of mine source candidates for a fulltime remote developer position, based in the US! I'd love to continue working with them but I can't due to my location. You'd be working on Audiom, an audio-based map viewer that allows blind and low vision people to access maps.

Hard requirements are: - previous experience with maps - accessibility knowledge required, with a strong preference for candidates who have some kind of certification (WAS, DHS Trusted Tester, etc.) It's a React front-end so experience there would be a bonus.
