Judge Furman: "[T]he Court holds that Comey is entitled to judgment as a matter of law on her central claims that she was terminated in violation of the constitutional separation of powers and federal law. It therefore grants her retroactive reinstatement and backpay . . ."

"Additionally, it grants her request for a declaration that Defendants (1) violated the separation of powers . . . (2) violated the Administrative Procedure Act (“APA”), and (3) violated her Fifth Amendment due process and statutory rights."

#BREAKING: Over public dissents from Justices Thomas and Alito, #SCOTUS *denies* the Trump administration’s request for a stay in the mail-in ballots case. The USPS Rule will remain blocked—almost certainly through the midterms.

We interviewed 35 federal judges. Every single one said the dangers federal judges face are more serious today than in the past. @washingtonpost.com breaks down our report, which covers the sharp rise in threats over the past decade and makes recommendations.

Trump is trying to destroy academic freedom - he sees it as an impediment to his corruption of our democracy. I know university leaders, like those at Yale, are in a tough position given his attacks, but they are under no obligation to agree to anything other than what's required under existing law.

The ‘dog days’ of summer get their name due to their association with the Dog Star, Sirius, found in the constellation Canis Major. The first visible rising of Sirius occurs during the hot stretch from early July to early September. Woof.

I just received the terribly distressing news that Gordon Wood was hit by a car and killed yesterday. We were together with other Founding era scholars at the 2nd Judicial Circuit conference last week at Lake George, and he was as usual in fine fettle and as always enjoyable to talk to.
